‘Rick and Morty’ co-creator Justin Roiland speaks out as domestic violence case is dismissed

He posted a statement with the word 'justice.'

For a while there, things were looking pretty bad for Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland. He was accused of felony domestic violence over a 2020 incident with a woman he was dating. From there, he watched all of his jobs disappear and his name dragged over a history of questionable actions toward women. Now the charges have been dismissed and he’s finally speaking out about the whole thing.

Roiland took to social media to share a statement and hit back at people who took him to the cleaners. On Twitter, he shared the statement with one word: “justice.”

“I have always known that these claims were false,” he said, “and I never had any doubt that this day would come.” He said he was “thankful” that the case was dismissed but “deeply shaken by all the horrible lies that were reported about me during this process.”

The thing that disappointed him the most, he said, was that “so many people were so quick to judge without knowing the facts.” He then called his accuser an “embittered ex trying to bypass due process and have me ‘cancelled.'” He said the fact that it actually happened was “shameful.”

This doesn’t mean he’s giving up. In fact, quite the opposite. “Now that the legal case has ended, I’m determined to move forward and focus both on my creative projects and restoring my good name.”

While he’s been cleared of court, Roiland’s reputation has perhaps been permanently damaged by a number of inappropriate DMs with women and minors. Here’s a sample:

Here’s one where he jokes about not being able to have sex with 13-year-old girls because society is too “precious.”

Whether or not he can find his way back from that remains to be seen. Here’s the full statement:

Roiland’s attorney told TMZ, “”I commend the Orange County District Attorney’s Office for conducting a thorough review of the facts and deciding to dismiss the case against Justin. I’m thankful justice has prevailed.” It’ll be interesting to see how this one plays out. We’ll keep you posted.
