‘Tax Heaven 3000’ is going viral, but please don’t give the anime girl your Social Security number

We know it's tempting, but please stay strong.

The anime community has given us plenty of questionable content over the years, but a dating simulator game to help folks with filing their tax returns is unheard of. Or it was, until now. If you have ever dreaded the struggle of preparing your U.S. federal tax returns, worry not: Tax Heaven 3000 is here for you.

This game is being developed by MSCHF Productions Studio Inc and was specially created to help people in this boring and, for some, stressful process. The idea is for the players to follow along with the game’s instructions, filing their tax returns in real life while they play. As they fulfill their civic duty, the player will also be attempting to sweep Iris off her feet, the anime girl responsible for aiding this process. What better incentive is there?

Tax Heaven 3000 is described as follows by the online games platform Steam: “Tax Heaven 3000 is a visual novel dating game that actually prepares your 2022 U.S. federal tax return! Romance Iris, a cheerful and easygoing girl who is oddly interested in your personal finances. Maximize your deductions, and charm your way into her heart!”

Needless to say, the dating simulator is going viral online ahead of its release, as folks grapple with the tough decision of whether or not to risk giving their Social Security information to Iris. Can one truly be sure if their taxes are being done properly without a pretty anime girl’s help? Hard to say.

It should go without saying that Social Security information is private and should under no circumstances be given to a video game company — no matter how nicely the anime girl asks for it. While this might sound obvious to some people, it’s never too much to repeat. Some Twitter users have taken it upon themselves to warn others about the risk of doing so.

Meanwhile, others are taking the opportunity to poke fun at the game, joking about the possibility of players having to explain themselves to the IRS or defend their cases in court should this endeavor go sideways.

Those who wish to — safely — give Tax Heaven 3000 a try just for the fun of it will be able to do so starting March 30. Just don’t put your full trust in a video game.
