This summer at Cousins Beach is going to be emotional.

There’s something special about Cousins Beach; it’s almost like a particular kind of magic exists there, saving itself for those who are brave enough to believe. That’s the feeling that fans were reintroduced to with the new trailer this afternoon for the epic second season, but it’s clear that not everyone is finding that magic so tangible this time around. Even though the teaser starts off with the moment our hearts have been longing for — not everything is as it seems.

While the concepts of familiarity and infinity are front and center in the trailer, there are also moments when the pain in the eyes of our beloved characters jumps out and touches us so profoundly that we can’t help but cry. In fact, we went from having butterflies in our stomachs and hearts in our eyes to crying like a baby in .3 seconds — and the best part? Taylor Swift’s beautiful song, “August,” is playing softly in the background.

On June 6, a snapshot of Belly was shared with the news that a new trailer was on the horizon; in it, eagle-eyed fans noticed that she had on a special necklace, a nod to a forever kind of love, more than that — the promise of infinity. For Belly, Conrad has always embodied that forever feeling – the kind of adoration that finds itself cemented in the your heart, never chased away despite what darkness or fear might engulf your path.

That doesn’t mean, however, that the path doesn’t get rocky, and book lovers know that The Summer I Turned Pretty trilogy is full of ups and downs for Belly, Conrad, and Jeremiah. While we can’t be sure how close to the books Jenny Han and the team at Prime Video will stay, we know that it won’t be all sunshine and rainbows.

So while we’re gearing up for a lot of heartaches this season, we’re also looking forward to more Belly and Conrad because, let’s face it, there’s no better OTP to fill the summer romance spot in our hearts. Here’s to another summer in Cousins, well — sort of, and hopefully one with more smiles than there are tears.
