Donald Trump watches GOP losses mount after the midterm election. Then he posts on Truth Social claiming he would have won: ‘I wasn’t on the Ballot’

Conservative influencers were stunned.

As early returns on Tuesday night showed Republicans losing ground in races across the country, President Donald Trump addressed the results in a post on Truth Social. He said the outcomes did not reflect what would have happened if his name had appeared on the ballot.

Trump wrote, “I wasn’t on the Ballot and if I was, we would have won IN A LANDSLIDE! Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP.” The message came as several Democratic candidates declared victories in contests that had drawn national attention.

In the Ohio governor’s race, Amy Acton defeated Vivek Ramaswamy. In Texas, James Talarico defeated Ken Paxton, while Gina Hinojosa defeated Governor Greg Abbott. In South Carolina, Annie Andrews defeated Darline Graham, who is the sister of the late Senator Lindsey Graham.

Projections show Democratic control of the House and a strong chance of Senate gains

Decision Desk HQ projected that Democrats had won majorities in the House of Representatives and the Senate. The call ended the period of Republican control in both chambers of the government.

Before Election Day, the Cook Political Report had estimated that Democrats would pick up between 15 and 25 seats in the House. The projection went well past the four seats required to flip the House. That shift followed growing Democratic momentum before the midterms.

The New York Times’ election model gave Democrats a greater than 95 percent chance of winning control of the Senate before the results started coming in. The same model estimated that Democrats would finish with 54 seats and Republicans with 45. Those figures were projections rather than final certified results. Republicans entered the night holding a 53-47 majority in the chamber.

According to Mediaite, political strategist Dick Morris told Newsmax host Rob Schmitt that the results reflected Trump’s success rather than failure. Morris said a lot of people would claim Trump was failing because of the midterms. He added that if Trump loses the House and the Senate, a long line of people will blame him. Morris argued the difficulty came from Trump solving major problems.

Morris stated that if 20 million people were still coming in over the border, if oil drilling remained blocked, and if Iran still faced no real barrier to a nuclear weapon, Trump would have no trouble winning. He said, “The problem is that he has solved virtually all of the major problems… He’s doing himself out of the job.” Trump’s standing had been slipping, with his approval rating hitting a new low before Election Day.

Prominent conservative commentators reacted as the GOP suffered disastrous results across both chambers of Congress. Influencer Joey Mannarino posted on X, “What in the absolute f–k is happening tonight?” Erick Erickson labeled the results a “bloodbath”, while Tim Pool wrote: “This is a blue great mud flood.”

The remarks came amid reports of large swings in areas that had long supported Republican candidates. The night’s results remained incomplete as counting continued in multiple states.
