‘The arrogance of the United States’: Depraved Neocon war hawks obliterated by Joy Reid’s bunker-buster lesson on Iranian history

One of the most terrifying things about the men who want to destroy the world is how little they know about it. For them, everything is simple, with the world neatly divided into heroes and villains. The United States, naturally, is a shining hero on the world stage, wielding its might to spread freedom or whatever. Meanwhile, countries like Iran are cartoon supervillains, just hellbent on destruction.

The unfortunate truth is that the countries on Trump’s hit list have very good historical reasons for hating America. You don’t even have to look back too far to find an instance where the CIA has deposed their government, their natural resources have been plundered, or their charismatic political leaders assassinated.

Former MSNBC correspondent Joy Reid delivered just such a history lesson last night to a group of neo-conservative ghouls who may as well have crawled out of the depths of hell. Displaying infinite patience, she calmly rebutted the moronic argument that Iranians are just “religious jihadis who want to eliminate Western society” and “hate our way of life” and delivered a concise and accurate history lesson.

This centers on the US and UK-led 1953 coup that imposed the tyrannical Shah. The Shah’s brutal, US-backed regime was overthrown in 1979 during the Islamic Revolution. The victors – quite understandably – weren’t happy with the United States about the whole 26 years spent under a tyrannical dictator thing. And, you guessed it, that’s why Iran has been deeply suspicious of American interests and prefers to align itself with China and Russia.

Ignorance is bliss

But, you know, taking that into account would require a degree of self-awareness, historical curiosity and, frankly, embarrassment that war-hungry neo-cons simply don’t possess. If they actually processed this stuff, they’d inevitably conclude that – shock – they’re the bad guys in this equation. Far better to ignore history, lie to yourself, and chuckle condescendingly as you blow up another apartment block full of innocent people.

That was aptly proven by Brad Todd, whose response was to mumble: “so they hate the Western world”. Maybe the world would be a better place if those in power cracked open a history book sometime because, as has been proven many times over, “those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”
