26yo Australian tourist who went missing in Las Vegas messaged friend where she was going

There are more questions than answers.

Australian tourist Sally Grace Contarino, 26, went missing in Las Vegas on June 20 after messaging a male friend on Facebook Messenger that she was going to Lone Mountain for a hike. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has since classified her as an endangered missing adult who may be experiencing severe emotional distress and be in need of urgent assistance.

The available evidence about her last known whereabouts consists of only a handful of confirmed details. This leaves far more questions than answers.

According to the California Post, Contarino arrived in the U.S. from Melbourne on June 13 for a solo holiday. The trip was supposed to take her through California and Nevada before she flew home on June 21. She never made that flight.

She was captured on Meta Glasses

One aspect of her disappearance that drew widespread attention was that she had been filmed by a content creator shortly before she went missing. The Instagram influencer is known for approaching women in public and asking for their phone numbers.

These creators often use Meta Glasses and have built audiences largely around giving confidence or dating advice to men. Contarino was approached outside a 7-Eleven near Boulder Highway on June 19. After the influencer complimented her and asked for her number, she politely declined, explaining that she had a boyfriend. The video shows the influencer walking back to his car, and there is nothing in the footage to suggest any further interaction.

On June 20, Contarino messaged a friend on Facebook saying she was planning a hike. She then remotely checked out of her hostel and told staff she would return later that day to collect her luggage. CCTV later captured her near 9700 West Skye Canyon Drive at 1:02 p.m. That is the last confirmed sighting investigators have of her.

Concern quickly grew when Contarino missed her Greyhound bus to Los Angeles on June 21. She was then supposed to catch her flight back to Australia. Police said she was last seen wearing a gray-blue sweatshirt, jean shorts, black-and-white shoes, and carrying a purse.

Since then, social media has been flooded with theories and speculation. Some users questioned the influencer who filmed Contarino the day before she disappeared. One comment read, “I mean has anybody thought about questioning this dude?? Pulling up to not even go shopping.” Another added, “People that wear camera glasses and record without permission gross me out.”

It’s been almost a month since she was last seen

Many commenters were unfamiliar with that style of content creation, but those reactions alone do not constitute evidence of wrongdoing. At this stage, the only verified information concerns Contarino’s confirmed movements before she disappeared. Investigators have not publicly identified any evidence linking any individual to her disappearance or indicating what happened after her last confirmed sighting.

It has now been almost a month since Contarino was last seen. While the lack of updates has fueled concern, authorities have continued their investigation and search efforts. Her family, meanwhile, continues to hope for answers.

The LVMPD is asking anyone with information about Contarino’s whereabouts to contact police at 702-828-3111 or the Missing Persons Detail during business hours at 702-828-2907.
