Traffic stops can often be stressful, but for content creator Slick, her determination to not make it ‘weird’ turned the routine stop into a wholesome and hilarious encounter. The motorcyclist who posts as slickerspeed on Instagram and TikTok found herself pulled over on a day when, as she explained in the caption, “I was just tryna prank my brother n get coffee.” In a post that has since racked up over 1.07 million views, she noted in the overlay, “I had to explain TS.”
The video began as the officer approached her window and told her, “Morning. I’m pulling you over because your car sounds like gunshots every time you let off the gas.” When the officer asked for her license and registration, Slick decided to be proactive about what he was about to see.
She told the officer, “So, my registration’s in my glove box, and I have, like, a rotisserie chicken in there, and I just didn’t want you to think I was weird when I pulled it out. It’s just, like, me and my brother have this joke every time we see each other. We’ve, like, put something random in the glove box. So there is a rotisserie chicken in there, and I just didn’t want you to think I was weird. It’s in there, though.”
The officer seemed to take the news in stride, but saw an opportunity
He mildly noted, “Just a rotisserie chicken in the glove box,” as she leaned over, pulled out a chicken from the glove box, and showed it to him. Then she pulled out her registration. As he looked at it, the officer added a twist that shocked her.
He asked, “Were you aware that having a chicken that size in your glove box is actually illegal?” Slick’s jaw dropped open as she asked, aghast, “What?” The officer continued, “It’s considered a fire hazard.” He waited a beat and then laughingly told her, “No. I’m just kidding. Smells good though. Let’s get you out of here so you can get it.” Slick immediately started laughing.
She told him, “It’s Monday, man. You can’t do this. Well I was gonna, like, pull it out before you pull up to my window, and then I didn’t want you to, like, see me like going through my glove box and you’re like, ‘She has a gun!’ And I’m like, ‘Stop. It’s a rotisserie chicken!’ So I wanted to explain it before I opened it.”
The officer told her, “Well, I appreciate that. And I’m serious.” After that, they had a cheerful conversation about her G80. Even though he stopped her for her exhaust, he complimented the engine’s purr. Since all we have is Slick’s edit of events, it shouldn’t be treated as verifiable fact.
The internet loved the lighthearted exchange. One Instagram user complimented the officer, noting, “I don’t want you to think I was weird” proceeds to make it weird. then officer plays on it by telling you that ish is illegal.” Another user echoed the sentiment, writing, “He passed the vibe check with that joke.” Someone else added, “And the award for most random interaction goes to…”
One follower joked, “I’m always packing a rotisserie chicken it’s not weird.” Not everyone was on board, though. One user tried to point out what they perceived as the cop’s hypocrisy. They wrote, “He pulls you over to tell you that you can’t have an exhaust that loud and then at the end of it, proceeds to compliment that it sounds good?” Slick responded to that comment by saying, “DONT QUESTION A NICE COP.”
On TikTok, the reactions were just as enthusiastic. One user wrote, “As a cop… this is one of the better “I just want you to be aware I have a ….” In the glove box. I can assure you that made a shift of officers laugh.” Another commenter added, “He took me out saying it was a fire hazard.” A third quipped, “It’s not illegal to have a chicken in the glove box but it is considered a fowl.”
This interaction was friendly and humorous. However, since it can be stressful, the law group Germaine & Blaszka advises that remaining calm and respectful is the best approach during any police encounter. Their guidance suggests that staying informed is key, as sudden movements or aggressive behavior can quickly escalate a situation.
G&B also emphasized that while you have the right to remain silent and refuse consent to searches, keeping a calm demeanor can help keep the interaction under control. It is always a good idea to keep your hands visible and avoid any movements that could be misinterpreted by officers. They noted that if a situation does escalate, it is vital to request an attorney and avoid discussing your case with law enforcement.
