TikTok influencers always seem to end up with the most contemporary career challenges. California creator Rosie Ghahary, a social media influencer boasting over 30K total followers across platforms, explained how sometimes even the most organized influencer can find themselves flat-footed.
Ghahary gave a customary TikTok storytime about a time she went to an influencer event and realized she might just be out of her depth. The platform has all manner of creators — complainants will always top the list because everyone is constantly searching for salons or mechanics to avoid.
But right below the complainants are the influencers who want you to know that life is a bit more complex than people make it seem. Ghahary was one such person. She believed the people managing the brand of a company she didn’t want to name would at least know that she was the type of creator who made jokes on her page — not the type to participate in one of TikTok’s many dance challenges.
Ghahary’s story with this latest social media campaign started with an innocuous invite for a product release. She shared on her page that the brand described the event simply as a “beach dance class with drinks on the beach.” From Ghahary’s candor, you could tell these vague prompts and descriptors were nothing new to her.
Still, she expected the dancing to be lighthearted. The day was supposed to be filled with networking and scenery-chewing. Little did Ghahary know that the dancing wasn’t just a suggestive activity — these were real, experienced dancers who could follow choreography they had learned on location.
Furthermore, she realized that almost everyone at the event already knew each other. So not only was she ill-equipped for the event, but she was also the only person who was. Suddenly, a flash mob started around Ghahary, and everyone knew the routine except her.
For some inexplicable reason, she was then called to the front to perform a dance she had absolutely no idea how to execute for the camera. Ghahary interrupted the flow of her story to explain that this was the exact moment she realized she was completely out of her depth. At that point, she believed she had two choices: either fake knowing the routine or choose the far more ludicrous and dramatic option of running away without explanation. She chose the latter.
Most people would have made an excuse. Maybe claimed they had lost a pet or simply said they had an emergency to attend to. But Ghahary — margarita in hand — chose to run off without explaining herself to anyone.
But this is 2026, so when she got outside and waited for an Uber, of course it canceled on her. Which meant that after startling everyone by abruptly leaving, she was left standing outside with a margarita in one hand and her phone in the other, nervously tapping her feet while waiting for another ride.
For Ghahary, the experience was a reminder that influencer events can sometimes be nerve-racking. For the rest of us, the lesson was that sometimes even influencers can’t keep up with influencers. And for the colleagues still wondering what happened to Ghahary that day — well, now they finally know.
