Philadelphia woman went to Dollar Tree to buy a pregnancy test. Then the cashier escorted her to the back of the store: ‘I’m screaming now’

We all like a little bit of Gossip.

TikToker Jahnell Anya recently shared a hilarious, if very nosy, story that has completely taken over TikTok. In a video that features some pretty dramatic, saxophone-heavy music, Philadelphia resident Jahnell shows herself holding two pregnancy tests before panning the camera to reveal she is actually being escorted to the back of a Dollar Tree by an employee.

The text overlay on the video explains the whole wild situation, stating, “Throwback to that one time I went to Dollar Tree for a pregnancy test and the cashier said she could “feel” that I was and took me to the back to take the test there.”

It’s safe to say the internet was obsessed. The video has already racked up 14.9 million views, 1.9 million likes, and over 5,000 comments from viewers who found the cashier’s bold move incredibly relatable. It seems like a lot of people just love a bit of retail drama.

May we all be so bold, so that we can also get what we want

User hallie_gornall simply wrote, “I love unprofessionalism,” while Dessimac joked, “She said, “lets find out together”.” Another user, linlowki, commented, “she said she GOTSS TO KNOWW,” and jas added, “she’s so messy.. i like her.”

It’s honestly hilarious to see how many people were invested in the outcome, with Angel noting, “She literally just wanted to be nosey 😭😂.” One user named Jillian Schneider even shared her own experience, saying, “one time I bought a test and a lady behind me said “good luck, I hope you get the results you want” 😭I think about her all the time.”

For those of you who just had to know what happened next, Jahnell eventually posted a follow-up video revealing the results of the test. Spoiler alert: the test was negative. The comment section on that update was just as entertaining as the first.

Lanie remarked, “I’m just as disappointed as the cashier 🫩,” while a user known as 🕸️ᔕᑭIᗪᗴᖇᗰᗩᑎ🕸️ claimed, “i cant lie i see a faint line.” Jahnell actually jumped into the comments to reply to that one, asking, “can you stop looking.” Others were more sentimental, like 🦫 who wrote, “congratulations mama 🥹 my “faint line” is now 2 years old. good luck 🫶🫶,” and Discovering_her added, “My negative pregnancy test turned 11 couple weeks ago.”

While the idea of a cashier taking you to the back of the store to help you figure out if you’re pregnant is definitely unusual, it raises a common question about these affordable tests. According to First Cry Parenting, dollar store pregnancy tests are actually just as reliable as the more expensive ones you find at a drugstore.

They function by detecting the human chorionic gonadotropin hormone in your urine, which is produced by the body shortly after conception. While some of the pricier tests might be more sensitive and able to detect pregnancy a few days earlier, dollar store kits are generally 99% accurate if you follow the instructions carefully and use them after a missed period.

It’s easy to feel skeptical about a product that only costs $1, but the technology is essentially the same. The main difference is usually just in the packaging or the speed of the readout.

At the end of the day, whether you’re buying your tests at a high-end pharmacy or a local dollar store, the result is the same. It’s a life-altering moment that can be pretty anxiety-inducing, even without a store employee trying to get involved in the process.

Jahnell’s story is definitely one for the books, and it’s clear that the internet loves a good, messy, and totally unexpected retail encounter. Whether the cashier was just being helpful or truly just wanted to be nosy, it certainly gave us all something to talk about. At least this time, the TikToker got something hilarious from a Dollar Tree visit, and not ridicule for the choice she was making.
