A woman filmed herself reacting after her partner unearthed bones and shotgun casings while digging under an old shed for a mud kitchen project. Jess Whittaker, who posts on TikTok as @_jesswhittaker and has long wavy brown hair, shared the discovery in a video that has gained hundreds of thousands of views.
In that first TikTok video, she explained that the shed used to be a house years and years ago. She said Jason was digging up some of the timber to make their mud kitchen when he found the items. On-screen text asked, “Is our house a crime scene?” The caption read, “I did not have this on my bingo card for today.”
Whittaker showed a red shotgun shell casing and a bone fragment in the dirt next to a weathered wooden beam. She stated, “So, okay, that’s a shotgun bullet. That’s another bone.” She then asked, “Oh, are they human?” The clip later showed a police utility vehicle parked nearby and three officers in high-visibility vests walking toward a weathered white building.
Whittaker shared details about the house’s history and floorboards in her follow-up videos
In her follow-up TikTok video, Whittaker shared background details about the property while they waited for results. She explained that the house was built in the 1930s or 1940s and had been relocated from another site. She described an extension that formed a separate little cottage, which she called a small brick house with about three rooms, an old fireplace, and a kitchen area.
She said the floorboards did not match the period of the house and were positioned almost like false flooring, making them easy to remove. Whittaker noted that the boards her partner pulled up were from the lounge room. Addressing online speculation, she stated, “I’m sorry, but who buries their f–king family pet underneath their lounge room floor? It’s weird.”
She added that the house was apparently well known in the 1990s for having a lot of criminals pass through and was a bit of a drug stop. Whittaker listed the shotgun bullets, the bones, and the false flooring together as reasons they wondered about the finds. She mentioned that their dog Hazza seemed anxious during the discussion. Whittaker’s house was apparently a drug stop in the 1990s, and old homes can hide surprises like a realtor’s find behind cabinet doors.
In her Part 3 video on TikTok, Whittaker said police spent about three and a half hours at the house. She explained that officers took a few photos and sent them to their forensic anthropologist in Melbourne. She stated that the anthropologist concluded there was not enough evidence to suggest the material was human, though this did not rule out the possibility. It is not the first time a homeowner has made a startling find, as new Connecticut homeowner discovered human remains inside their house.
She added that police gave them contact details to use if they found anything more clearly identifiable while pulling up the rest of the floorboards, such as a skull or a rib cage. Whittaker noted that they had already sent through some extra photos. She said the only thing that still left her unconvinced it was an animal was the presence of seven or eight shotgun cartridges next to the bones.
In her latest TikTok update, Whittaker showed more bones uncovered under the shed floor, including a large one she described as “a big one.” She said she stopped digging because she was concerned about snakes coming out of the hole. She explained, “I feel like we can pretty confidently say from the collection of bones that we found today that it is just a large animal.”
Whittaker noted that a small piece of tarp turned up but appeared to be just an offcut. She said she still did not know why the bones were next to a bunch of shotgun casings. She concluded, “At this point I think we can confidently rule out that there is a body underneath our shed and just some really weird animal hunters, perhaps.” The caption on that Part 6 video read, “Okay feel like we can sleep now.”
Some viewers responded to the first video by suggesting the remains were likely from an animal rather than a person. One commenter wrote, “Hopefully just an old family pet.” Another shared a similar experience from their own property and stated, “We used shot guns on animals at our farm a lot – let’s hope.”
A third commenter offered a specific guess about the type of animal and wrote, “That’s a kangaroo or deer.” One more noted the situation itself and commented, “Your luck is never ending.”
