Woman was soberly waiting for uber outside Austin bar. Then she immediately realized a fake driver was trying to lure her to his car: ‘Creepy men’

A woman who posts on TikTok as Dianis (@diana_nluca) said in a video that she was standing outside Mother’s Ruin in Austin, Texas, waiting for a friend when a man approached her and claimed he was her Uber driver. In her caption, she wrote that she was sober enough to know the approach was a ruse. She said she lives down the street and was walking home.

Dianis said in the caption that once her friend joined her, she decided to help the man “become FAMOUS.” She added, “Women be careful of creepy men.” She also wrote that people should not follow after them and that he just happened to be walking on her way home. The video has gained 169,500 views, 38,700 likes, and 1,600 comments.

The clip, filmed at night, begins with a blurry shot of a light-colored surface and then pans down to a sidewalk. Dianis said the man was wearing a dark blue polo shirt and jeans. He is shown walking past a sign for Poeta Restaurant & Rooftop Bar before turning his head back toward her.

Creator films man after he claimed to be her Uber driver

Dianis is heard saying, “Hey, I thought you were my Uber.” The man, smiling and gesturing with his hands, replies, “I, I logged out. I’m fine.” She then asks, “Yeah, so where’s the car? I thought you were my Uber.” He walks a few more steps, turns back, points, and says, “My car right there, if you want to know.”

She immediately questions him again: “Where is it? So you’re not driving? Why would you say that? Why would you say, hey, I’m your Uber driver, and then not be my Uber driver?” Dianis then asks, “Were you trying to break the ice?” The man replies, “Yeah, I like your outfit.”

As he speaks, a white cowboy hat briefly covers part of the camera’s view. Such predatory behavior from fake drivers is not an isolated incident, as in one case, a woman took an Uber in France, and the driver hotboxed the car and locked the windows before telling her they were going to his place to shower.

Dianis then says, “Oh yeah, so you’re just a weirdo trying to pick up girls when they’re drunk, not realizing that not everybody is drunk, right?” The man turns and begins to walk away down the sidewalk. He says, “You can go ahead, you can go ahead.” Such unsettling encounters with fake drivers are not isolated, as seen when a woman home alone with a baby noticed an Uber Eats driver had entered her house.

She continues filming and states, “No, I get that. Now you’re on video, you’re gonna be famous because you’re a creep.” The man turns his head back, smiling, and asks, “How many followers you have?” Dianis replies, “Probably none, but this is gonna go viral. Austin, Texas, creepy men trying to pick up women saying they’re Uber drivers because they’re thinking you’re drunk.”

She concludes, “Welcome to stardom with your sh–ty a– outfit.” The man continues walking down the sidewalk, occasionally glancing back, and eventually walks out of frame. In a later comment reply, Dianis wrote that she was just standing waiting for her friend when he came up and said, “I’m your uber, the car is right there.” She added that she lives down the street so she was walking home and that she was like wtf.

Brooks Law Group advises riders to check the vehicle’s make, model, color, and license plate against what’s listed in the app rather than relying on the Uber or Lyft logo. If the details don’t line up, don’t get inside.

In 2018, an investigation by the NBC Bay Area Investigative Unit exposed a black-market scheme that enables potential criminals to impersonate rideshare drivers.

Viewers responded in the comments. One person wrote, “Make a police report.” Another commenter said the same man had followed them home after a movie on 2nd Street and described the experience as so so scary. A viewer from the United Kingdom wrote, “I’m here from UK he’s internationally known.”

One commenter stated, “Lying about being an Uber driver is against state and federal law and he admitted it on camera. Report him!” Another wrote, “Him trying to insult you for not being kidnappable is crazy. Very common man behavior.” A further commenter said it was a great example of why life is better when you’re sober, added that they were very glad she realized and was safe, and thanked her for sharing the video.
