It’s been an entire summer since The Vampire Diaries left fans with their collective jaws on the floor after the heartbreaking season five finale. Now that we’ve had some time to grieve, and realize that Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Bonnie (Kat Graham) are not gone for good thanks to executive producer Julie Plec confirming that both actors are contracted as series regulars for season six, it’s time to celebrate the return of fan favorite Alaric Saltzman (Matt Davis).
Alaric has filled several roles since we were introduced to him in season one – history teacher, vampire hunter, guardian, friend, ghost, etc. His death was a huge blow to all the characters and left a void that the series has had trouble filling. With the other side collapsing, the writers decided to give his character a second chance (supernatural ring exceptions not included). This may be a small consolation to Elena (Nina Dobrev), Stefan (Paul Wesley), and the rest of Mystic Falls supernatural community (err, former community, since they won’t be returning to this magic-less area anytime soon), but it’s definitely a win for fans.
In honor of Alaric’s return to the land of the living, we’ve come up with a list of ten characters (in no particular order) that we wish The Vampire Diaries would have brought back along with him.
