10 Characters We Wish The Vampire Diaries Would Have Brought Back

It's been an entire summer since The Vampire Diaries left fans with their collective jaws on the floor after the heartbreaking season five finale. Now that we've had some time to grieve, and realize that Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Bonnie (Kat Graham) are not gone for good thanks to executive producer Julie Plec confirming that both actors are contracted as series regulars for season six, it's time to celebrate the return of fan favorite Alaric Saltzman (Matt Davis).

Aunt Jenna remained blissfully unaware of the supernatural elements in Mystic Falls for the better part of two seasons, representing the human element of the show. When she finally learned about vampires, her reaction was priceless. She didn’t have much time to adjust to this new knowledge though before she became the third main character on The Vampire Diaries to be turned into a vampire herself.

Let’s face it, Jenna never stood a chance when her turn to be sacrificed as part of Klaus’s twisted ritual to break the hybrid curse came around. Instead, she did what any doting guardian type would have done in her place – she fought. Jenna made a lasting impression when, instead of running, she died trying to save Elena.

Although it was a relief when Esther (Alice Evans) told Elena in season three that Jenna found peace on the other side, her death remains one of the most unexpected and tragic on the show. There’s still a lot of potential for her character, especially with The Vampire Diaries being at such a crossroads now. It would also be a nice treat to see her and Alaric get a genuine chance at happiness, even under these strange circumstances, since it was cut short the first time around in the wake of her death.
