10 Characters We Wish The Vampire Diaries Would Have Brought Back

It's been an entire summer since The Vampire Diaries left fans with their collective jaws on the floor after the heartbreaking season five finale. Now that we've had some time to grieve, and realize that Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Bonnie (Kat Graham) are not gone for good thanks to executive producer Julie Plec confirming that both actors are contracted as series regulars for season six, it's time to celebrate the return of fan favorite Alaric Saltzman (Matt Davis).

Vicki Donovan was the first character that The Vampire Diaries let fans get somewhat invested in, only to then be killed off. Since then, Vicki has appeared on occasion in every season of the show in some ghostly form or another. She tried to manipulate her way back to the land of the living with the help of some powerful witches, but she always came through in the clutch when necessary – her final scene in season five was a great example of this character trait.

Even though Vicki has always been a peripheral character, her attachment to the central characters elevated her to a different level. Her brother, Matt (Zach Roerig), has been through so much over the course of the last five seasons that having his sister come back would be a welcome relief.

Now that the characters are displaced from their home in Mystic Falls, it also be that much more convenient to have her reappear. And, it would really just be nice to see Matt have a personal victory after so much tragedy. Vicki got the short end of the stick when Damon turned her out of boredom, and even though him and Matt aren’t exactly best friends, Damon wouldn’t begrudge him a little company, wherever he ended up over the hiatus.
