The 10 Best Superhero TV Moments Of 2016

Superhero movies might have received a mixed reception in 2016, but comic book television has never been better. Both Marvel and DC expanded their respective shared universes outwards this past year and in just about every case, superhero TV shows reached a good balance between pilfering from the comic books and adapting the material to best fit the new medium. Series like Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl finally found their feet, others like Arrow got back on track and those like The Flash and Daredevil continued their winning streaks.

They might be behind Marvel on the big screen, but DC’s TV universe has grown exponentially over the past few years. Finally, they put their multi-show shared universe to good use this year with the week-long Heroes vs. Aliens crossover event which encompassed Supergirl, The Flash, Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow.

Every episode of the four-way crossover offered lots of great moments, from the Hall of Justice from old animated series Super-Friends making it to live-action to the comic hi-jinks of Heatwave hitting on Supergirl (“Hey, Skirt… call me”). Still, what fans really wanted to see was all the other Arrowverse heroes to unite in action, which finally happened in the crossover’s final episode over on Legends of Tomorrow. In a possible riff on Civil War‘s airport scene, the proto-Justice League fought hordes of Dominators on a rooftop.

Seeing archers, speedsters, metahumans and Super-people team up to take on alien invaders was the most 100% comic book-y scene found anywhere on television this year. It might not match up to the budget of a blockbuster movie, but that doesn’t stop this scene from being just as entertaining and thrilling.
