10 More Marvel Characters We Need To See On Netflix

When it was first announced that Marvel and Netflix were teaming up to develop shows revolving around Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist before uniting the heroes in The Defenders, comic book fans were understandably excited. While it would have of course been great to see those characters in their own big screen outings, what the online streaming service has done is essentially give them thirteen hour movies, something which is pretty hard to complain about. With Daredevil's second season bringing the likes of Elektra and The Punisher into the mix, it's clear that these shows can be used to introduce other lesser known superheroes, some of whom could make for great supporting characters and others who definitely have the potential to hold their own in a series revolving solely around them. What you'll find in this article is a mixture of both, and while Netflix may currently be focused on The Defenders, this lot needs to join them sooner rather than later. 10) She-Hulk When it was revealed a few years ago that Guillermo del Toro was developing a now scrapped TV series featuring The Hulk, the biggest question everyone had was how the Jade Giant could be brought to life on the small screen. Well, you only need to look at shows like Daredevil and The Flash to see how far things have come with CGI. Plus, She-Hulk would actually be much easier to create in live-action than her cousin. A Netflix budget would definitely be an advantage, and the fact that she's a lawyer definitely lends itself well to this sort of storytelling format. So far, the online streaming service has stuck with quite grounded material, but if they do want to fully embrace superpowers, I can't think of a better character than She-Hulk to prioritize as their next series. 9) Captain Britain Rumours started doing the rounds recently that Captain Britain may be on the way to the small screen, and honestly, it's shocking that Brian Braddock still hasn't appeared in live-action. Despite being relatively obscure, he has a ton of great mythology behind him which would make a TV series a real blast to watch. Captain Britain's powers also have a basis in magic (he travels between alternate realities as part of the Captain Britain Corps and he was granted his abilities by Merlin himself), so this would work really well following the release of Doctor Strange. Alternatively, Netflix could follow The Ultimates by going down the route of making him a super solider, but either way, it's about damn time that the UK gets to see their main superhero reach the small screen. 8) Black Widow So far, the Marvel TV shows have felt pretty separate from the movies. While they clearly take place in the same world, we've yet to see any significant crossovers, with the last one being Nick Fury's appearance in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. a couple of years back. However, with so much demand for Black Widow to get the spotlight and the studio seemingly unwilling to commit to a big screen spinoff, why not bring Scarlett Johansson's former assassin to Netflix? While it could revolve around her present day adventures, I actually think it would be a lot more interesting for a show like this to take place in the past, possibly telling the story of how Hawkeye (yes, he could show up too) ended up rescuing her from the dark path she was on by making her part of S.H.I.E.L.D. 7) Shang-Chi It sounds like we might see Shang-Chi on Netflix as soon as next year as a supporting character in Iron Fist, and while many of the characters listed here have the ability to carry their own show, that's a role which would likely suit this martial arts expert a little better. Son and nemesis of the infamous Fu Manchu, Shang-Chi uses his exceptional skills to fight against injustice, and if he's handled as well as The Punisher, he could very well end up in his own spinoff series as there's a fair bit of mythology there for Marvel and Netflix to delve into despite his lack of an ongoing comic book series over the years. Ultimately, he may be too similar to Iron Fist for that to happen, but this is definitely a character who could bring a lot to the table when The Defenders finally assemble. 6) Ghost Rider Sony f***ed up Ghost Rider on two separate occasions (their first mistake was casting Nic Cage), and the rights to the Spirit of Vengeance are now back at Marvel. Understandably, they've left the character on the shelf for the time being, and seeing as both his movies were critical and commercial flops, a big screen reboot in the near future seems highly unlikely. So, with that in mind, why not bring him to Netflix? They certainly have the money to do Ghost Rider justice, and a 13 part series would give them the opportunity to tell his origin story the way it should be told while also delving deeply into the anti-hero's fascinating mythology. After introducing street level superheroes like Daredevil and Jessica Jones, seeing them focus on supernatural ones would be very welcome. 5) The Winter Soldier We're going to have to wait until Captain America: Civil War is released to find out what's next for Bucky Barnes, but assuming that movie doesn't follow the comics by having him suit up as the next Cap, giving him a spinoff on Netflix has the potential to be really great. Sebastian Stan could remain part of the movies, but a show like this could be used to explore his tenure as HYDRA's Winter Soldier, something the source material has done to great effect since his return. Alternatively, the show could also switch between the past and present. Regardless of the format, The Winter Soldier taking centre stage would be a real treat for fans. Similar to Agent Carter only a lot better thanks to Netflix's budget, this would make for must-watch television. 4) White Tiger Quite a few different people have held the White Tiger mantle over the years, with the latest being Ava Ayala, the younger sister of Hector Ayala and the aunt of the former White Tiger, Angela Del Toro. Each of them has held the mystical Jade Tiger Amulet (which imbues them with incredible abilities), but it's Angela who I would like to see most on Netflix. In the comics, she was one of the FBI agents investigating Matt Murdock after he was exposed as Daredevil, but later realized that being a hero was a better option than trying to arrest them. White Tiger is a character who could easily be introduced in the next season of the Man Without Fear's show, and providing she's handled well enough, there's at least a chance the character could then move into her own spinoff series. 3) Spider-Man I won't deny that this is something of a stretch, but bear with me. After the disastrous Amazing Spider-Man movies, Sony desperately needs to repair the wall-crawler's image, and while early reviews for Captain America: Civil War point to Peter being a highlight, more than that and his solo movie could be needed to turn things around for this franchise. So, with that in mind, why not give fans something they've been dreaming of for years by teaming up the wall-crawler with Daredevil? Sony could do worse than giving Spidey a bit of screentime in a show many critics have called Marvel's best adaptation, and it honestly makes sense that these two vigilantes operating in New York City would cross paths at some point. This needs to happen eventually, so why not on Netflix? 2) Blade The first two Blade movies were pretty great, but everything went horribly wrong for the franchise when Blade: Trinity was released. A complete and utter mess, the series was put on hold and the rights eventually ended up returning to Marvel Studios. Since then, he's become yet another character left on the shelf, and while Wesley Snipes has teased some sort of involvement with a Blade 4, Marvel would be much better off starting from scratch by giving the vampire hunter a chance to shine on Netflix. Bringing vampires into the Marvel Cinematic Universe would be a bold move, but one which could really shake things up in an exciting way, especially as this would be unlike anything we've seen in this world before now (plus, it could lead to Morbius' introduction...). 1) Moon Knight Considering the fact that Moon Knight is one of their most interesting and psychologically complex characters, it's honestly surprising that Marvel didn't decide to make him part of The Defenders when they first struck that deal with Netflix. After being resurrected by an ancient Egyptian God, Marc Spector embarked on a career as a superhero, but suffers from a split personality disorder and some serious delusions. That makes him pretty dangerous, something which was evident a few years back when he ended up carving off the face of one of his greatest foes. Exploring that side of him and just the fact that this is a great character should make Moon Knight a priority for Neflix, and like Daredevil, he's someone who would benefit from a run of episodes over a single movie.
