Our 5 Favorite Episodes From Season 1 Of Beauty And The Beast

The CW's Beauty and the Beast isn't exactly the Disney classic you grew up with (or, that I grew up with), and hopefully you're not too young to know what I'm referring to. Instead of a misunderstood bookworm, you get a brave and equally intelligent New York City detective. In the place of a cursed prince, you get a genetically altered super soldier. Where there were magically transformed household supplies for periphery characters, you get a protective partner, an overzealous sister, and a biochemistry professor for a best friend.

In the season finale of Beauty and the Beast, Cat and Vincent contemplated what it would be like to be a normal couple while Vincent enjoyed the influence of Gabe’s quick fix pill. It turned out that the same serum that temporarily held Gabe’s animal instincts at bay might be the cure Vincent was looking for. This is the first time that the option of a real future is on the table.

The happy moments were in short supply, however, when someone decided that Cat’s father knows too much and decided to eliminate the threat. They may not have succeeded entirely, but that didn’t stop the domino effect as events moved forward.

Things got worse when Gabe takes Cat hostage in an attempt to lure Vincent out. Gabe believes that if he can kill him, he can develop a serum that will replace his daily regimin that no longer is effective, and suppress his beast side.

In order to take Gabe on, Vincent must give up what he wanted most of all – the idea of a normal life – to save the woman he loves.

Beauty and the Beast ends its first season with a cliffhanger that no one saw coming. It looks like Cat’s biological father isn’t the man laying in that hospital bed. It turns out that he’s actually a man pretty far up in the Muirfield hierarchy. When Vincent comes to rescue Cat, Muirfield is waiting.

Honorable Mentions:

  • “Trapped” (Season 1, Episode 8) – Guest star Bianca Lawson is always a welcome addition to any show.
  • “On Thin Ice” (Season 1, Episode 11) – The scenes between Cat and the shrink were pretty spectacular. We’ve never seen her open up like that before, and it was a refreshing change of pace.
  • “Heart of Darkness” (Season 1, Episode 18) – Evan gave up his life to protect Cat, and had the forethought to send an e-mail to the department clearing her name of any involvement.

Beauty and the Beast comes back for round 2 on Monday, October 7 at 9/8c on the CW
