9 Comic Book Characters That Deserve Their Own TV Show

One of the greatest things to happen in the last few years is the increase in the number of television shows devoted to comic book characters. We’ve got Arrow, which is gearing up to air its fourth season; The Flash, which seems to be a massive hit among fans and had an excellent rookie outing; Netflix’s Daredevil, Fox’s Gotham, and CBS’ Supergirl. Not to mention there are several more that are set to be released soon, such as Legends of Tomorrow, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders and Jessica Jones. And those are just the ones that are already in active development. Even with everything that's already on the air or in production, there are still a ton of comic book characters who deserve their own TV show. Join us, then, as we take a look at 9 heroes who would be perfectly suited for the small screen, and feel free to chime in with your pics in the comments section below. 9) Spider-Man The year is 2015 and we've already had five Spider-Man films in the span of 15 years (two of them were reboots). Do you really want another one once 2017 rolls around? Don't get me wrong, I love the character and I think he's great, but why waste a film opportunity on him when you could be focusing those efforts and production costs on characters such as Black Panther and Ms. Marvel? Two characters who are going to get films but have now been pushed back because of Marvel's love for Spider-Man. That kinda stinks if you ask me. It's not like he wouldn't work on a Netflix budget, either. In fact, he'd actually do really well. Not to mention it'd be really cool to see him interact with characters such as Daredevil and Luke Cage. Here's to hoping Marvel decides to change their game plan and puts Spider-Man on Netflix at some point, allowing for them to focus on lesser-known characters instead. 8) The Punisher This may be one of the more obvious choices to ask for in terms of comic book characters getting a television show devoted to them. I know many fans have asked for a Punisher show, and with Frank Castle now going to be a major game-changer in Netflix and Marvel's Daredevil, why wouldn't he get his own show? The character has a very rich history that would allow for his story to be told in several 13 episodes increments. We've already had two Punisher films, and those weren't exactly received too well. But a Punisher program in the hands of Marvel Studios, a studio who has so far proved they know what they're doing with adapting comic books, would be amazing. But of course, if you're going to do a Punisher show you have to give him the spandex suit with the skull on it. If you can't do that, you might as well not make the show. 7) Moon Knight Easily a character that is very under-appreciated, Moon Knight has the potential to be a fantastic TV show. Moon Knight aka Marc Spector was quite the interesting guy. He went from being a heavy-weight boxer, to becoming a US Marine, then to serving as a CIA agent, and finally became a mercenary. On one of his missions in Selima he was badly injured and to try and save him, some of his companions brought him to a statue that was in a tomb. While there, he was seemingly resurrected and went on to wear a white cloak and serve as the vigilant superhero Moon Knight. Now, tell me that whole situation wouldn’t make for a stellar first season on Netflix? It’d be pretty cool to not only expand the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but to also show that a lot of stuff happens in that universe with the more mythical side. 6) She-Hulk She-Hulk isn’t exactly one of the heroes that most people have on their top 10 list, but that doesn’t mean she is a bad or “uninteresting” character. The cousin of the Hulk, she gained her powers from a blood transfusion provided by Bruce Banner. Not only does she have the ability to Hulk-out, but she gets to keep her intelligence and regular personality as well, unlike her cousin. Of course, for a show like this you’d more than likely need to use some heavy CGI to have the character go from 5’10 to 6’7. Unless Marvel has some amazonian stunt-women on retainer. Still, it would be cool to show in the MCU that Bruce Banner has a cousin who shares the exact same powers as him. 5) Zeus Alright, this one may sound kinda out of left-field, and I get why. BUT, a Zeus TV show would work on Netflix in a similar style to Game of Thrones/Vikings. And the real kicker is it could take place in the current time-frame of the overall MCU, just in another realm/location. The show would also be a good way to introduce some of the newer, more powerful Marvel heroes and villains in the universe as well as old ones, such as having Surtur cameo in the show, or even Thor. Now, the budget here would have to be rather steep, but that's why you’d put it on Netflix, where they could more than likely afford all of the VFX. 4) Clinton Barton Before The Avengers came out, I had no interest or knowledge in Hawkeye. I just thought he was a purple version of Green Arrow. But then I read Matt Fraction’s stellar Hawkeye series and because of that he’s become one of my favorite heroes around. And, I believe in my heart-of-hearts that Clint deserves his very own TV show because of it. In the comic series, everything is revolved around how Clint spends his hours to himself when he’s not fighting bad guys with the Avengers. He has verbal spats with his young ward Kate Bishop, has to juggle relationship problems, and gets into several fights with Russian gangsters that are always saying “bro.” It would all make for some interesting TV and I'm sure that fans would love the chance to catch up with Clint each week on the small screen. 3) Black Knight This guy has a pretty cool backstory on how he became a superhero. For those that don't know, Black Knight inherited a family member’s castle, found a mythical sword hidden in it and then infiltrated the Masters of Evil as a way of helping out the Avengers. A TV show revolving around him could be all about those events leading up to Avengers: Infinity War, and then you could have the moment Black Knight is successful on his mission tie-in to the first part of the third Avengers film. Incorporating Black Knight in the MCU isn’t needed, much like a majority of these shows or characters, but it helps add something special to all the inner workings. It also helps widen the spectrums of superpowers that exist in this universe. 2) Young Avengers This show is one of my favorite ideas, and I sincerely hope Marvel will plan on making something like this for their universe. Young Avengers is like the Avengers, but the members are younger, hence the name “Young Avengers.” With this you could work the plot to be about a group of teenagers with unique abilities who saw the Avengers during the New York attack and want to be just like them. And with Spider-Man now going to exist in the MCU come 2016, you could even have him be the leader of the group. You’d also be able to incorporate the team into the feature-length films, and have S.H.I.E.L.D. register all of the characters post-Civil War and sanction them as one of their black-ops groups. 1) Joseph Green Having someone like Joseph Green exist in the MCU would be kinda cool, seeing as how people with god-like abilities don’t exactly phase him. But, the start of the series would be about his days as a soldier going into dangerous locations and using his cybernetic appendage to fight off bad guys. You could have him do some short stints in the Iraq war, and even make up some battles that are specifically meant for the Marvel universe. Once season 2 would come along is when he'd be seen training young and old heroes, as well as fighting along some heroes that have been active for quite some time. This would allow for several Marvel Team-Up type episodes, also also explore the real world in this universe of powerful people. Not to mention Green has a slightly important role in the Marvel comic-verse after Civil War takes place, and seeing that brought to life would be very cool, especially with the storyline being covered in the next Captain America.
