7 TV Shows That DC Should Make After Supergirl

While Marvel took over the known world with its superhero blockbusters, their closest rival DC snuck in through the back door and quietly invaded our homes through the medium of television. Thanks largely to the impressive work of producers Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Andrew Kreisberg, we're now living in a golden age of TV shows based on superheroes. Comic book geeks have never had it so good... aside from that time Black Widow was all tied up at the beginning of Avengers Assemble... and when Chris Evans frequently lost his clothes in Captain America: The First Avenger... and when - argh stop me now.

4) Wonder Woman

It’s taken years of blood, sweat and tears, but Wonder Woman is finally heading to the big screen, making her first cinematic appearance in the upcoming blockbuster Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. The fans’ reactions to the casting has been mixed to say the least, and that’s before the movie’s even been finished, because apparently all internet trolls hail from the future and already know everything about every movie that is yet to be made.

Whether Gal Gadot pulls it out of the bag or not, Wonder Woman has already proven herself as a popular character on the small screen with the classic 70’s TV show, cementing the Amazonian Princess permanently in the public consciousness. It wouldn’t make sense to produce a modern day Wonder Woman show next however, as DC are currently pouring all of their effort into making her own solo movie work, but there’s certainly potential to be creative with the character’s legacy…

David S. Goyer recently confirmed that he’s begun working on a Superman origin show for TV, working in a similar vein to Fox’s Batman story Gotham. The program will be set on Krypton and will flesh out the backstory of Superman’s grandfather… which could be interesting I suppose, but imagine if this concept was applied to Wonder Woman instead?

The animated Wonder Woman movie proved that interest could be sustained in the backstory of the Amazonian Princess, exploring her earlier life on the island of Themyscira. The Amazonians are powerful characters and the mythological Greek setting has proved popular time and time again on the big screen. As long as the producers avoid the cheesy tone of shows like Xena (which admittedly I love), a program based on Wonder Woman’s early years could prove to be even more popular than the upcoming solo movie that everyone is anticipating slash dreading.

Now we just need to think of names. Names… hmmm… Princess of Themyscira? … The Amazons?… That Chick With The Starry Knickers? Needs some work methinks.
