7 TV Shows That DC Should Make After Supergirl

While Marvel took over the known world with its superhero blockbusters, their closest rival DC snuck in through the back door and quietly invaded our homes through the medium of television. Thanks largely to the impressive work of producers Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Andrew Kreisberg, we're now living in a golden age of TV shows based on superheroes. Comic book geeks have never had it so good... aside from that time Black Widow was all tied up at the beginning of Avengers Assemble... and when Chris Evans frequently lost his clothes in Captain America: The First Avenger... and when - argh stop me now.

Zatanna

Supergirl may be leading the charge when it comes to showcasing female superheroes on TV, but producers need to start looking for strong women outside of the extended Kryptonian family for their next show and Zatanna could be the perfect choice. Combining a unique power set and memorable look, the sultry spell caster has been on the cusp of mainstream fame for some time now, appearing frequently in animated shows such as Young Justice and even the live action hit Smallville. Her very own TV program could be the next logical step.

As an occasional member of the Justice League, Zatanna is a stage magician who can alter reality itself by casting spells backwards. Conjuring and teleportation are just a few of the skills that Zatanna can harness, making her an extremely formidable opponent in the comics. For budgetary reasons, a Zatanna show may choose to limit her abilities somewhat, but this would work in the characters favour, as it’s hard to relate to heroes who appear all-powerful on a regular basis.

Guillermo del Toro has discussed the possibility of including Zatanna in his upcoming feature film Justice League Dark, but I’d much rather see the mystic hero in her own show first. Constantine may have not been the hit that NBC were hoping for, but this doesn’t mean that a supernatural comic book program couldn’t become as popular as Arrow one day. Think Sabrina the Teenage Witch meets The Flash, throw in some sexy fishnet stockings and you’ve got a smash on your hands!

You’re welcome, CW…
