7 TV Shows That DC Should Make After Supergirl

While Marvel took over the known world with its superhero blockbusters, their closest rival DC snuck in through the back door and quietly invaded our homes through the medium of television. Thanks largely to the impressive work of producers Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Andrew Kreisberg, we're now living in a golden age of TV shows based on superheroes. Comic book geeks have never had it so good... aside from that time Black Widow was all tied up at the beginning of Avengers Assemble... and when Chris Evans frequently lost his clothes in Captain America: The First Avenger... and when - argh stop me now.

At the risk of repeating myself, Constantine may not have been well received in all quarters, i.e. most people stopped watching it after the first episode, but the decision to utilize characters from DC’s Vertigo imprint was an inspired one that still holds potential. If Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy taught us anything, it’s that producers should look more outside the box for inspiration and that the Vertigo line is a goldmine for bizarre yet lovable characters.

The Doom Patrol are a weirdo group of super-powered freaks who were created in 1963 by DC Comics. Similarities between the team and Marvel’s X-Men were apparent from the get-go, but as the merry mutants became more popular, the Doom Patrol eventually faded into obscurity until the late 1980’s, when Grant Morrison relaunched the book, taking it to whole new realms of insanity.

With characters such as Crazy Jane, a woman who possesses 64 unique super-powered personalities and Dorothy Spinner, an ape faced girl whose brings her imaginary friends to life, this version of Doom Patrol isn’t exactly as straight forward as an archer dressed in green, but that’s what makes it so promising. There’s literally never been a show like this and if handled right, Doom Patrol could be DC’s answer to Marvel’s upcoming Defenders program on Netflix.

Sure, we’re more likely to see Arrow’s Arsenal grow a personality than see this version of the Doom Patrol ever hit the small screen, but they recently announced a new cartoon for Vixen, so there’s always hope I guess!
