In a major departure from the comic books (in a number of ways), it’s revealed fairly early on that Jessica Jones is responsible for the death of Luke Cage’s wife.

While under Kilgrave’s control, she delivered a killing blow by punching her in the chest, something the guilt ridden private detective avoids telling her new lover on a number of occasions. However, when an enraged Luke goes after the bus driver he mistakenly blames for his wife’s death, she has no other choice than to confess that it was actually her fault.

This is a heartbreaking moment, especially after seeing their relationship develop earlier in the series, and just as it appears that the grieving hero might take some revenge, the punch he delivers to the bus caps off a powerful scene in what appears to be the end of their time together.

At least, until the show finds a brilliant way to bring him back, that is. But more on that later.
