Yes, Bob Gunton has already played Leland Owlsley – the alter ego of the Owl – in Daredevil season one, as Fisk’s crooked accountant. However, he was not truly the supervillain from the comics, so now we need to see the character properly brought to the screen.

In the comics, Owlsley was a successful financier – known as the Owl for his shrewd ability to play the stock market – until he lost his position when he was discovered to be corrupt. He then turned to a life of crime and took a serum which gave him the ability to fly – and eventually caused him to be become more animalistic.

Gunton’s character was, of course, killed at the end of season one, but he did mention having a son named Lee. This was surely inserted as a way for the Owl to return as a different character – which is something that needs to happen in season three. Perhaps Leland Jr. becomes the villain in a quest for revenge for his father’s death?
