8 Game Of Thrones Characters Who Probably Won’t Survive Season 6

With Season 6, Game of Thrones has become more unpredictable than ever before. The HBO series infamous for indiscriminately offing lead characters is entering its final stretch, meaning all bets are off and absolutely anybody can be killed this year. In fact, Sunday night’s premiere already got the ball rolling, shocking us with the sudden demise of three heroes: Prince Doran, Areo Hotah and Trystane Martell. Expect many more citizens of Westeros to bite the dust in the forthcoming weeks, especially considering that it’s time the writers start axing superfluous characters and setting the end game in motion. The stakes have only been raised by the fact that the show has surpassed George R.R. Martin’s book material. Until recently, anyone could easily discover their favorite character’s fate with a quick Google search, but we are now in uncharted territory, so this season’s trajectory is a mystery to us all. Might Cersei Lannister be killed? Will Jaime murder her? Is Alliser Thorne a goner? There is no longer any way of knowing for sure, and that's part of the excitement. Still, some predictions can be made based on trailers, interviews, and foreshadowing within the series itself. So on that note, here are 8 Game of Thrones protagonists who are most likely to die in Season 6. 8) Olly At least one person responsible for Jon Snow’s murder is destined to be punished, and Olly might be the perfect candidate. After all, Game of Thrones loves presenting us with vile characters whose eventual downfall nonetheless makes us feel weirdly sympathetic. When Joffrey was poisoned back in season 4, this was a scene every viewer had eagerly anticipated, yet it was tough to celebrate while a horrified mother watched her baby boy choke to death. Similarly, Olly has inspired copious amounts of hate online following his decision to assassinate Jon Snow, and seeing as Ghost is about to explode with rage over at Castle Black, everyone’s least favorite farm boy may not be long for this world. At the same time, we will no doubt feel a bit of sadness when this young man who has been through so much, and who witnessed his own parents being slaughtered in front of him, is brutally mauled after doing what he thought was right. It makes sense on a plot level, and it’s exactly the kind of complex emotional beat David Benioff and D.B. Weiss typically revel in. 7) Alliser Thorne If Olly makes it through the impeding Castle Black melee over Jon's body, Alliser Thorne’s death is probably a safe bet. The show made absolutely sure the audience still hates this guy during “The Red Woman,” as the First Ranger declares that he is indeed the one who murdered Jon Snow, and he’d do it again. Thorne is so delusional that he appears to honestly believe he did nothing wrong and never once disobeyed an order from Jon. Game of Thrones presumably will not spare the man who thrust the initial blade into Jon’s heart, and you may recall that the season 6 trailer features a clip of Alliser preparing to confront Davos and Jon’s friends as they all unsheathe their swords. Here we have a bunch of angry crows who are fine dying if it means taking Thorne down with them, so it’s doubtful that all of these men will walk away unscathed next week. 6) Tommen Baratheon King Tommen has been on the chopping block for some time now, and his murder feels inevitable at this point. We have been explicitly told it’s coming by Maggy the Frog, who prophesied that Cersei would see all three of her children die. Myrcella was recently poisoned by the Martells, and Cersei very conveniently brought the fortune teller back up in the season 6 premiere as if to remind the audience. Isn’t this exactly the scene one would write if a third death was on its way? Tommen has also been sitting on the Iron Throne for two full seasons now. This show is literally named after the concept of unseating the current ruler and seizing power for oneself, and considering the sheer number of characters who are aiming to take over King’s Landing, let’s just say Tommen should probably play with Ser Pounce as much as possible while he still can. 5) Walder Frey This will almost certainly be the most satisfying death in all of Game of Thrones, and that’s saying quite a lot for a show with so many despicable bastards. Walder Frey has been one of the primary antagonists since season 3 after he was responsible for orchestrating the Red Wedding. Sure, Joffrey was a sadistic brat who ordered the beheading of Ned Stark, and Ramsay is a psychopath who tortures for fun. But Frey is the man who coordinated the most gruesome event in modern pop culture. After being mysteriously absent during the past few seasons, actor David Bradley is set to return this year, and he can be spotted in the season 6 trailer. In fact, he appears to be at some sort of feast or wedding, which would be the ideal time for a northerner to seek revenge. There are also some behind-the-scenes factors that point towards Frey’s death. In a surprisingly revealing interview that Sophie Turner gave to Yahoo, the Sansa Stark actress played a game of two truths and a lie. Her responses were that in season 6, Ramsay dies, Lady Stoneheart returns and Arya checks three names off her list. Stoneheart’s presence is unlikely, meaning this is the lie and the other two are legitimate. To summarize, Arya is evidently going to knock three people off her list during the same season that Walder Frey happens to be making a return. Hmm.... 4) Ramsay Bolton Unless she’s completely messing with us, that Sophie Turner interview also suggests that Ramsay Bolton will be killed this year, which would be fitting as a possible episode 9 or episode 10 twist. Based on the trailers, we know that the Boltons will be involved in a massive battle, which hopefully means all of Ramsay’s spectacularly awful choices are about to come back to haunt him. He can't keep pissing off absolutely everyone in Westeros without facing any repercussions, right? To quote Jesse Pinkman, he can't keep getting away with it. We saw in "The Red Woman" that Sansa is heading towards the Wall, so assuming she makes it there in time for Jon to be resurrected, could the two of them join forces to take back Winterfell? And could Sansa be the one to massacre Ramsay in the most sadistic way possible? After all he’s put her through, she damn well better be the one to do the honors. 3) Loras Tyrell Loras currently awaits trial after being accused of fornicating with Renly Baratheon, making him the third major Game of Thrones character who the Faith Militant hopes to take down. They can’t all make it out scott free, right? Plus, a conflict between the Lannisters and the Tyrells has been brewing for years, and the death of Loras would be just the catalyst the show needs in order to send King’s Landing into complete and utter chaos. Loras’ fate would motivate Margaery to go after Cersei, and perhaps a Tyrell vs. Lannister war would begin. That would be on top of the Martell vs. Lannister war that is a virtual certainty after Myrcella’s assassination. From a production standpoint, Finn Jones was recently cast as the titular character in Netflix’s Iron Fist, which is quite a large commitment. It’s possible he was able to balance both shows in his schedule, as Loras does not appear in every episode, but it’s curious that the actor landed a huge television role during the very same season that his Game of Thrones character is in peril. 2) Melisandre Most fans are in agreement that Melisandre will resurrect Jon Snow, so at this point, the bigger question is whether the Red Woman will survive the process. In fact, some are going as far as to speculate that when Melisandre got into bed defeated at the end of the season premiere, she was preparing to die in order to revive Jon Snow. That seems like a stretch, but the show has driven Melisandre to the point that she thinks all is lost, which would put her in the optimal position to sacrifice herself in hopes of redemption. The final scene of the season 6 premiere does not exactly present us with a woman who feels that she has much to live for. The only possible setback to this theory is the season 3 scene in which Melisandre runs into Arya and tells her, “We’ll meet again.” What would be the point of ensuring these two cross paths if not to set up something down the line? It would be quite the fake out if Melisandre dies and never sees Arya again, but this series does love to mess with us. 1) Cersei Lannister Cersei is ready to burn the whole damn kingdom to the ground when we meet her in the season 6 premiere. The city is being taken over by the Faith Militant, she’s on trial for adultery, her daughter has been murdered, and the Tyrells are ready to pounce at any moment. It looks like we may witness a slight return to power for Cersei in the early part of season 6, but once Tommen is inevitably murdered, all hell will break lose. It’s going to be an absolute bloodbath. Assuming Maggy the Frog’s prophecy is correct, Cersei is slated to die at the hands of her Valonqar, or “little brother.” She always assumed this would be Tyrion, but he is going to be stuck in Meereen for at least another season. It would be a perfect bit of Game of Thrones style irony for the Valonqar to be Jaime. Although they’re twins, Jaime is technically a few minutes younger than his sister. The Kingslayer may murder Cersei in order to once again save King’s Landing from a mad ruler intent on burning the whole place down. There’s still some question as to if it will happen this year or next, but assuming Tommen perishes soon, season 6 might just be remembered as the downfall of Cersei Lannister.
