3) What’s The Deal With The Blacksmith?

Season two gradually peeled back the layers of the mystery surrounding the death of Frank Castle’s family, but it did not reveal the whole truth. We know that it was basically the fault of the Blacksmith, the drug dealer, yet we are still in the dark about the specifics.

It can be assumed that Frank’s old army boss Colonel Schoonover was the Blacksmith, but that point is never made clear. He also never confesses that it was him who framed Castle for the deaths of DA Reyes or Dr. Tepper. How would this respectable military man end up as a drug dealer anyway? It is hinted that something Frank did in Kandahar is the cause of his family’s death, but what did he do?

These loose ends are clearly being left for the rumoured The Punisher spinoff series to pick up and explore. However, until that arrives, we are stuck scratching our heads, wondering how it all comes together.
