8 Superheroes That Should Have Their Own CW Show

With four shows (soon to be five!) in their arsenal, The CW's Arrowverse is going strong and doesn't look to be slowing down anytime soon. What started with just Arrow more than five years ago has slowly grown into an impressive lineup that now includes The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl and the recently announced Black Lightening. But why stop there? After all, DC has a vast library of fantastic characters who deserve a chance in the spotlight, and with audiences' insatiable desire for all things superhero, The CW should strike while the iron is hot. All of the characters on the following list are unique and interesting enough to carry a show by themselves. Not only that, but they have rich histories and complex storylines that would really need a television show rather than a live-action movie to completely do them justice. We're living in the age of superheroes right now, there's no doubt about that, and the ones on this list definitely deserve an opportunity to shine! The Question Although Arrow's tried to get back to its roots this past season, it'll never be the “grounded and gritty” show it was when it first premiered. It’s made great strides in striking a balance between street vigilantism and lightheartedness, don't get us wrong, but it leaves audiences hungry for more mature content left unsatisfied. If The CW wants to truly have a show with a street level hero with darker undertones, they should look no further than The Question. Known to civilians as Vic Sage, The Question spends his days as a mild-mannered investigative reporter, and his nights as the vigilante protector of Hub City. He doesn’t have any super powers or a knack for odd weapons like a bow and arrow, but he is a great martial artist and a solid detective. He can find connections where no one else can, and his best comic interpretations see him as a paranoid conspiracy theorist that doesn’t trust anyone. He basically lives in his own noir film, and that sort of tone and style would be a nice shakeup to the Arrowverse. Of course, one of Sage’s biggest character traits is his constant quest for philosophical meaning, so his show could follow him as he explores low-level crimes and conspiracies while searching to understand the world around him. While he's been a hit with fans in the comics, can Vic Sage be an interesting live-action character as well? We hope that question's answered sooner rather than later. Booster Gold Booster Gold is a time-traveling superhero from the 25th century who uses high tech gear and a lovable robotic sidekick named Skeets to fight crime in our time. If that sentence doesn’t make you automatically excited to see a whole show devoted to him, then you clearly have no heart. What makes him even better is that Booster Gold has a massive ego, but only traveled back to our time because he wasn’t good enough to standout in the future. Oliver Queen, Barry Allen, the Legends and Supergirl want to fight evil because they feel inherently compelled to do so, but following Booster Gold would show a character selfishly obsessed with getting famous. More than that, though, a CW show devoted to the character learning how to become a true hero is the perfect sort of arc that the network's missing right now. Plus, any good Booster Gold story also includes his best bud Blue Beetle, so it’s basically two for the price of one. Nightwing Yes, we know that Nightwing's getting his own movie already, but here us out on this one. What’s it like to be a sidekick all your life? To live in the shadow of someone more famous than you and not really knowing your true worth as a solo hero? That would be the underlying motivation behind a Nightwing series, which would immediately make Dick Grayson the most complex out of any CW hero. A show following Nightwing would start with him moving to Blüdhaven and adopting his new name in order to begin his career as a solo vigilante, but it would be so much more than that. Dick Grayson had his family taken from him at an incredibly young age, only to be immediately morphed into a crime fighter. He hasn’t had a normal life either, interacting mostly with the emotionally stunted Bruce Wayne. The other side of the show, of course, would see Dick learn how to be a functioning member of society as well as a kick ass hero. It’s a balance that would not only bring a fan-favorite character to the small screen, but really explore him in ways a movie cannot. Constantine This one is kind of a cheat because Constantine already had his shot at live-action TV stardom with a recent NBC adaption, but let’s be honest; Constantine never fit on NBC. He belongs in the Arrowverse so much that the actor who portrayed him, Matt Ryan, reprised his role for an episode of Arrow, a rare win for cross-network promoting. Even though he only had a small appearance, Ryan was charismatic and interesting enough to have fans pestering The CW to give him his own show. Giving Constantine another shot at his own series would round out the Arrowverse with a magical element. Arrow deals with gritty vigilantism, The Flash and Supergirl are more straightforward heroics, the Legends infuse a bit of science fiction into the mix, and with Constantine, they could explore the more mystical side of things. Make it happen CW! Zatanna If CW didn’t want to risk bringing back a character that already failed in fronting a show and would rather explore the mystical side of things but with a female-centric series, the obvious choice would be Zatanna. She’s a powerful magician with an interesting quirk of speaking backwards to cast her magic. Her show would not only deal with the magic and mystical side of the DC Universe, possibly incorporating elements like the mystic tribe of sorcerers known as the Hidden Ones, or even set up Justice League Dark, but it would also be a really personal story as she struggles with escaping the shadow of her famous magician father. Heroes with daddy issues are CW’s bread and butter, so Zatanna would feel right at home. Hawk And Dove Let’s be real. Sam and Dean Winchester are basically superheroes and Supernatural still remains an incredibly popular show even though it’s been on for what seems like forever now. If they wanted to, The CW could try to replicate that brotherly bond that’s made Supernatural so successful, but just infuse that into a new superhero show. And a perfect pair for this type of series would be Hank and Don Hall, otherwise known as Hawk and Dove. Granted their powers by the lords of Chaos and Order, Hawk and Dove work together to fight crime even though their ideologies vastly differ from one another. Hank Hill (Hawk) is more forceful and aggressive in his fighting, while Don Hall (Dove) is usually driven by reason and nonviolence. The two clashing personalities could drive a potential CW series and explore what it truly means to be a hero better than any current show in the Arrowverse. The Spectre Out of all the origin stories, watching Jim Corrigan become The Spectre would be one of the most fascinating and brutal to see. On his way to his engagement party, thugs murder hard-boiled cop Corrigan. They stuff his body in a barrel and toss it where it can never be found. If he wasn’t already having a bad day, his spirit is then denied access to the afterlife and he's sent back to Earth to eliminate evil in supernatural fashion. The Spectre is similar to Ghost Rider in a way because of his desire to wipe out evil, but his powers make him one of the most powerful heroes in DC’s arsenal. He can warp reality, manipulate matter an energy and has a general cosmic awareness. You absolutely don’t want to get on his bad side, or else you might wind up a nice crispy skeleton. It would be a darker show, for sure, but it could potentially rival everything happening over on Netflix. Static When it was announced The CW was bringing an electricity-based superhero to its lineup, we were both pleased and disappointed that it turned out to be Black Lightening. Although awesome in his own right, we’d by lying if we said we weren’t a little bummed that they didn’t chose to bring Static to the Arrowverse instead. Maybe it’s our nostalgia talking, but we have a soft spot for the classic animated program Static Shock, and it’s a shame we won’t get to see Virgil Hawkins in live-action form. But who knows? The Arrowverse shows loves their sidekicks, with Oliver Queen having Roy Harper and Barry Allen having Wally West, so it’s not out of the realm of possibility that Black Lightening could mentor a young Static.
