Good news, Marvel TV fans!
ABC is developing another new show in conjunction with the House of Ideas. The network’s Entertainment head Channing Dungey spoke to Deadline recently and revealed that the mysterious production is currently in the discussion stages but teased that she’s very excited about it, saying:
“In terms of Marvel, we have somethings that we are in discussions with them right now that we are in development.”
As of 2018, the only Marvel show enjoying an ongoing run on ABC is Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Despite wrestling with unspectacular ratings, the series based around Phil Coulson’s gang of heroic secret agents has proven to have enough of a fan following and support from Marvel for it to last until its upcoming sixth season, which is set to arrive in 2019.
The rest of ABC’s attempts at repeating S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s success with another Marvel property have been less fruitful, however. Agent Carter was a show with a huge amount of admiration from fans and critics but sadly, its ratings were just too low for the network to keep it going past season 2. S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff Most Wanted, meanwhile, was then ordered by the network but failed to progress past the pilot stage.
ABC’s most infamous superhero failure, though, has to be Inhumans. It should have been a massive crossover hit, thanks to its opening in IMAX theaters, but the writing and production values of the show about the Inhuman royal family saw it get torn to shreds by critics and the network quietly swept it under the rug after just 8 episodes.
Hopefully, whatever ABC and Marvel have got up their sleeve will be more like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and less like Inhumans whenever it eventually materializes. And as always, as soon as we get more updates, we’ll be sure to let you know.
