DC TV Roundup: Gorillas Invade Central City, Prometheus Is Unmasked

While Marvel and DC battle to see who wins at the box office, it’s virtually inarguable that it's the latter who dominates the small screen. Now having taken over four nights of the week when it comes to prime time programming, serialized superhero storytelling has swiftly become a cornerstone in the lives of many a geek these days. And who could blame any of us? Twenty-some episodes afford more character development and make room for introductions of heroes and villains that you would never be able to see in a two-hour movie. Multiply those possibilities due to a handful of these shows now existing and we’re being treated to a Golden Age of Superhero TV that we hope doesn’t end any time soon. Given that, we've established this column with the intent to recap the most memorable moments in DC TV each week, analyzing all the unforgettable developments to occur on Gotham, Supergirl, The Flash, Arrow and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, provided a new episode airs. Check it all out on the next page and be sure to comment down below letting us know what your favorite moment was this week from DC's TV universe. 3) I’m A Cybernetic Organism, Living Tissue Over Metal Endoskeleton When a series builds to a certain moment, you cross your fingers hoping that it doesn’t disappoint. And, so far, Supergirl is doing nothing of the sort as it's handling the return of Jeremiah Danvers extremely well. Long story short, Kara’s adoptive father has been in the background of the show, popping up here and there whenever he serves the storytelling and whenever actor Dean Cain is available. This past Monday, “Homecoming” showed us that when an evil organization made up of mad scientists has held your dad captive for years, it might not be beyond the realm of possibility that they’ve done something to him. And although Mon-El was the unwavering voice of reason, it took him much of the episode to convince Kara and the others of the truth. But, Jeremiah pretty much let the cat out of the bag when he later attacked the DEO. What served as the icing on the cake, however, was finding out that dear Mr. Danvers has had some cybernetic augmentations. Factoring in that the extended trailer for next week’s episode sees Lillian Luthor saying something to the effect of “you’re the only Superman we need” makes me hope the producers stray from canon and make him THE Cyborg Superman. Yes, Hank Henshaw is the original from the comics and has already declared himself as “Cyborg Superman” out loud, but he’s been a guy in plain clothes for the entire season. To see Cain don a costume and play an evil version of Superman after having played Big Blue for four seasons on Lois & Clark would be one of the most awesome things 2017 could possibly produce. 2) Any Which Way You Can This week, The Flash concluded the two-part “Gorilla City” arc with “Attack on Central City.” And while it wasn’t a bad episode by any stretch of the imagination, it just didn’t have that event feel that last week’s offering did, you know what I mean? What they did get right was creating an episode that was strong on character development and interactions. Not only were Earth-2 Harry’s encounters with Earth-19 H.R. pure hilarity, but major headway was made between Wally and Jesse, in addition to Barry proposing to Iris in the cliffhanger. As for the gorillas, well, it was cool, but I suspect that much of the visual effects budget was blown during last week’s comics-to-screen tour de force. Grodd’s full scale invasion of Central City came after three quarter hours of buildup and was capped off by five superheroes – Flash, Kid Flash, Jesse Quick, Vibe and Gypsy – coming together in order to watch Solovar take down his nemesis in a battle marred by choppy animation. Now that we’ve done the Gorilla City thing, let’s put the idea to bed. 1) Prometheus Unmasked! Well, this was it and we never saw it coming – Arrow finally revealed the identity of Prometheus: Adrian Chase! What made this a complete shocker is that Chase is Vigilante in the comics, so we fully expected him to be under that particular mask, but, in an unbelievable twist, Star City’s ace attorney has turned out to be Oliver Queen’s great nemesis. The placement of the unmasking was a shock in and of itself because as opposed to being done in the final minutes as things of this sort usually go down, it happened at the halfway point. As of now, only the viewers know his secret, but all that will change when the show returns in two weeks for an episode that is sure to be must see TV. Now that this mystery has been put to rest, our attention turns to Vigilante. To be quite honest, the list of suspects is rather short and I’m half-expecting him to be Paul, Curtis’ soon to be ex-husband. Although he’s been a bit character to this point, you have to admit that would make for one hell of a revelation.
