DC TV Roundup: Poison Ivy Returns In Gotham And Savitar Debuts On The Flash

While Marvel and DC battle to see who wins at the box office, it’s virtually inarguable that it's the latter who dominates the small screen. Now having taken over four nights of the week when it comes to prime time programming, serialized superhero storytelling has swiftly become a cornerstone in the lives of many a geek these days.

This week, we kick off our list with DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, which brought us the aptly titled “Outlaw Country.” In it, the Waverider crew travel back to the wild west to clean up a mess caused by a time pirate that was set to alter American history in unimaginable ways.

You see, Quentin Turnbull, an outlaw himself, came into possession of some future technology and dwarf star ore, which threatened to start a domino effect causing all territory west of the Rocky Mountains to bear the name of “Turnbull Country.” Obviously, the Legends weren’t going to stand for this and teamed up with the DC’s greatest bounty hunter to inhabit the 19th Century, Jonah Hex. On the plus side, said ore will allow Ray Palmer to rebuild his Atom suit just in time for the four-show crossover.

Although involving Hex doesn’t exactly tread new ground due to him having appeared in season 1, the series needs to have more guest shots such as this. The producers need to put Doctor Who out of their minds and stop having our heroes do things such as saving Albert Einstein and fighting Confederate zombies (really?).

Instead, they should take full advantage of DC’s rich history and incorporate concepts such as Anthro, Kamandi, The Losers, The Legion of Superheroes, etc. Bringing in the Justice Society of America was a giant step in the right direction and we’d like to see more nods to the comics in that vein.
