DC TV Roundup: Poison Ivy Returns In Gotham And Savitar Debuts On The Flash

While Marvel and DC battle to see who wins at the box office, it’s virtually inarguable that it's the latter who dominates the small screen. Now having taken over four nights of the week when it comes to prime time programming, serialized superhero storytelling has swiftly become a cornerstone in the lives of many a geek these days.

If you’re a fan of Gotham, you no doubt heard the news over the summer that Ivy Pepper would be aged up, so to speak, by one of Hugo Strange’s monsters who possessed the ability to rapidly age those he came into physical contact with. Having taken kindly to the older Ivy in the second episode, we were quite surprised that her involvement would be rather limited in subsequent weeks.

Thankfully, that all changed this past week with “Mad City: The Executioner” when one of DC’s most iconic femme fatales made her glorious return. Maggie Geha’s brilliant performance contained a delicate balance of the villainess we know and love, along with a naïveté possessed by an adult who is, in essence, still an adolescent mentally and emotionally. Her chemistry with the young Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle is tremendous and brings a certain levity to DC’s darkest TV series.

It’s also good to see the producers have elected not to make a hard transition, as opposed to having Ivy instantly become the comic book baddie we’re familiar with. This would have indeed been an easy trapping to fall into and, seeing as how this is a prequel series, she has much room to develop her character and will remain one of Gotham’s major draws.
