8 Characters We’d Love To See On The Flash

In only eight episodes, The Flash has established itself as a fun, faithful look at the popular superhero, packed to the brim with easter eggs and appearances by some of DC Comics' most iconic characters. The Flash hit the ground running by establishing a few core members of the Rogues, a team of supervillains who band together to take down the scarlet speedster, and a recurring cast of supporting characters with deep histories in the DC canon. S.T.A.R. Labs employees Caitlin Snow and Cisco Ramon are known to readers as Killer Frost and Vibe, Firestorm recently made his debut, and a host of lesser-known villains, like Girder, the Mist, and even Rainbow Raider have given Barry a run for his money. As the series goes on it shows no signs of slowing down, so we can expect an even greater amount of DC pantheon mining before the first season is out. And so, we've compiled a list of 8 characters who we'd love to see make an appearance in the series.... 8) Supergirl While it would initially seem a bit farfetched to request that the Last Daughter of Krypton make a trip to Central City and meet up with The Flash, the fact that The Flash producer Greg Berlanti is currently developing a Supergirl series makes it a bit less of a pipedream. I say a bit less because, despite the Berlanti connection, Supergirl is taking shape over at CBS, not at The CW, which homes both The Flash and its sister show, Arrow. However, we've heard a few times now that it's possible that Supergirl will crossover with the two CW superhero series, so I'm leaving her on this list. So far, Barry Allen has been the only good-natured metahuman to grace the streets of Central City. The others he's met up with thus far have all been pretty bad, and either wound up in the metahuman prison underneath S.T.A.R. Labs, or have been killed. Bringing Kara Zor-El - another super-powered individual - into the series would help show Barry that he's not alone, even if Supergirl's from another planet. Add the fact that the two have had some fun (albeit heated) interactions in the New 52, and you've got yourself a cool, high-octane episode to look forward to. 7) Savitar Savitar is pretty unknown to general audiences, so his inclusion could be an interesting leap into the deeper, darker reaches of the DC catalog. The powerful speedster got his powers much like Barry did, by being struck by lightning, though he was testing a supersonic fighter jet during the Cold War instead of hanging out in his lab/loft. Savitar's jet was struck by lightning once it hit top speed, and he crashed behind enemy lines. He miraculously survived and became obsessed with his newfound powers. He started going by the name Savitar because it means "God of Motion" in Hindu, and over time he perfected his abilities along with developing new ones, including the power to create a forcefield around himself, to give people and objects kinetic energy, and to heal his own wounds almost instantaneously. Eventually, he gained followers and became the leader of a cult called the Thunderbolt Agents. He's also fully tapped into the Speed Force, the outer-dimensional plane in which all speedsters draw their power. It has yet to be fully explored in The Flash, so Savitar's arrival - and his mastery of the Speed Force - could be a great way to introduce its larger science-fiction elements into the show's mythology. 6) The Trickster The Trickster is not only one of The Flash's more famous foes, but he might just be his most obnoxious. Despite that, he's just too iconic not to include in the series at some point, and with the right approach, he could be a great addition to the show and add a lot of entertainment to Barry's ever-expanding rogues gallery. Giovanni Giuseppe, who goes by the stage name James Jesse, is a practical joker and conman who uses a wide array of wacky inventions in his fight against the scarlet speedster, including exploding teddy bears, air-walking shoes and other circus-themed gadgets. While he's often been associated with the Rogues, the team of Flash villains led by Captain Cold, he's fought on the right side of the law as well. He often collects the weapons of incarcerated villains so that they don't get into the wrong hands. So, in that respect, he could come in handy for Barry at some point in the series, and even take possession of Captain Cold's freeze ray or something. The Flash has proven to be a pretty light and fun glimpse at the DC Comics Universe thus far, so introducing a zany, theatrical threat like the Trickster could work rather well. 5) Cobalt Blue One must-have character on the series - if for nothing more than the intense emotional implications - is Cobalt Blue, Barry Allen's long-lost twin brother. While it initially sounds quite a bit like something out of a soap opera, Cobalt Blue's existence is believable enough that, with enough care and planning, it could be pulled off on the series quite nicely. On the night of Barry's birth, two women came to the hospital: Nora Allen and Charlene Thawne. Charlene's child had been strangled by its own umbilical cord, and the doctor in charge was too intoxicated to save the baby. Nora gave birth to twin boys and in an attempt to remedy his mistake, the doctor gave one of them to Charlene, and told Nora that her child was stillborn. The Thawne baby was named Malcolm, and grew up in a life of crime. He eventually finds out that he's adopted and is fueled by a jealous hate for him. He comes in possession of a mystical talisman that his adopted family used for their crimes, which creates a blue flame that can steal anything that your heart desires. Eventually, he begins to wear the talisman on his chest and becomes the supervillain Cobalt Blue. So far, The Flash has placed Reverse Flash as its series-long antagonist, as he's responsible for the death of Barry's mother. Eventually though, things with Reverse Flash will come to a head and the series will need a new villain. Cobalt Blue could easily fit that role, and could offer yet another emotionally-charged foe for Barry to face off with. 4) Ray Palmer, The Atom Ray Palmer a.k.a. The Atom, is already played by Brandon Routh on Arrow. Luckily, that means that there's a great chance he'll show up on The Flash at some point as well. A character like Ray Palmer almost feels more at home on a series like The Flash than he does on the more dark and gritty corner of the TV universe that Arrow inhabits. Granted, he gives the latter series a much-needed sense of humor and lightheartedness, but that doesn't mean he can't offer The Flash something as well. We've already heard rumors that Palmer will suit up on The Flash instead of on Arrow, which makes sense from a story perspective. Arrow is, as I mentioned before, the more grounded of the two series, and has - for the most part - shied away from the inclusion of superpowers. As such, if Ray is going to suit up as the size-changing Justice Leaguer, it'll happen on The Flash. Plus, it'd be fun to see the tech mogul meet up with the S.T.A.R. Labs employees, and might even have more to offer them than someone like Felicity Smoak. 3) Mirror Master The Mirror Master moniker has been taken on by four characters over the years, the most notable of which are Samuel Joseph Scudder (the current New 52 version) and Evan McCulloch. Scudder is a simple convict who stumbles upon a hall of mirrors, and experiments until he finds a way into his own reflection. He develops a strong power over mirrors, and is then able to travel through them and trap others inside of them. He has a taste for the fantastical, often uses invisibility, hypnotism, and holograms against the Flash, and can even use mirrors to travel into other dimensions and parallel universes. McCulloch, one the other hand, is an orphaned Scottish mercenary; he traveled the world in search of his birth parents and became one of the world's most renowned assassins in the process. Eventually, he's picked up by the U.S. government and given Scudder's costume and weapons, in exchange for his efforts in taking down other super-powered beings. Either version could easily make their way to The Flash, though someone like Scudder makes more sense at first. However, Arrow's already established the Suicide Squad, which could easily explain McCulloch's existence, so perhaps we could see an amalgam of the two. Either way, it's only inevitable that we'll see one of the Flash's most iconic and beloved foes. 2) Wally West It may be a bit early in Barry Allen's superhero career to take on a sidekick (or die and get replaced), but considering that Wally West is one of the most important characters in Barry's life - and took on the Flash mantle for nearly two decades - you simply cannot make a Flash series without introducing him at some point. Wally West is the nephew of Iris West, and takes on the moniker Kid Flash after being struck by the same lightning/chemical accident that gave Barry his powers. When Barry sacrifices himself to save the Earth during the Crisis on Infinite Earths storyline, Wally takes up his fallen mentor's costume and superhero identity. We know that the creators of the show want to introduce Wally into the show, so at this point it's only a matter of time. As I said, it's a bit early in Flash's career to be taking on a protege, but Arrow introduced Oliver's sidekick, Roy Harper, early on in the series and then transitioned him into being a costumed crimefighter at the end of the second season. Wally could easily show up as a side or supporting character and then make the transition to Kid Flash when the time is right. 1) Jay Garrick Barry Allen may embrace and symbolize "The Impossible" in his series, but he was not the first man to don the Flash moniker. That role belongs to Jay Garrick, who first appeared in the comics in 1940. Garrick is a college student who fell asleep in his laboratory and inhaled hard water vapors and developed the power of superspeed as a result. He becomes a college football star for a bit and then takes up heroics by donning a red shirt with a lightning bolt, and a stylized helmet with wings, reminiscent of the Roman god Mercury. Garrick is a founding member of the Justice Society of America, an early iteration of the Justice League, and teams up with other iconic Golden Age heroes like Green Lantern, Wildcat, Hourman, and Hawkman. Because of the way Barry's powers have been established as the first superpowers to appear in the Flash/Arrow universe, introducing someone like Garrick would be a bit tricky. However, we saw the JSA in Smallville and their introduction was handled with believable care, so it's certainly possible. In any case, seeing an iconic character like Garrick would help establish a greater DC TV universe and offer up a fun opportunity for fans to see these two iconic characters on screen together.
