Gotham‘s fifth and final season is getting ever closer, and this newly-released first promo image for the run has got us even more hyped than we already were.
With Gotham burning behind them – following the “No Man’s Land” event that devastated the city in the season 4 finale – the image unites the main cast, heroes and villains alike, for one final showdown. From left to right we have: Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor), Riddler (Cory Michael Smith), Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue), Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie), Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz), Lucius Fox (Chris Chalk), Selina Kyle (Camren Bicondova), Alfred Pennyworth (Sean Pertwee) and, last but not least, Barbara Kean (Erin Richards).
Subtitled “Legend of the Dark Knight,” season 5 will see our heroes trying to keep Gotham under control now that it’s wilder than ever, with the city divided into factions led by various villains since Jeremiah sent the town into chaos with his explosive plan to tear Gotham to the ground.
As well as old favorites returning, season 5 will also introduce a few new faces into the show’s rogues gallery. Most notably, Shane West is joining the cast as Eduardo Torrance AKA Bane. Well, a very different-looking version of Bane, going by the iffy first image of the character that we got, but Bane nonetheless.
Before the end arrives though, the main players will all take their usual places in the Batman mythos. The series finale is said to jump forward 10 years, meaning we’ll get to see the likes of Penguin and Riddler in their classic outfits and, most importantly, Bruce Wayne in costume as Batman. We’ve yet to see how the caped crusader will appear, but we’ve been told to expect a suit that will resemble Christian Bale’s from The Dark Knight Rises.
Gotham returns to FOX for its final 12 episodes on January 3rd.
