Grant Gustin Teases A New Costume For The Flash In Season 5

By now, you've probably noticed that the major heroes populating the Arrowverse are awarded new costumes every so often. Though Oliver Queen's suit may have undergone subtle variations throughout the first three seasons of his own series, it wasn't until the fourth that the Green Arrow received a considerable upgrade. Then, he lengthened the sleeves on that bad boy for the following year and beyond.

Likewise, Barry Allen has endured some aesthetic changes over on The Flash. Similar to Ollie, it wasn’t until his fourth season that a major alteration was made to his attire – barring a color swap on the logo, of course – but now we’re receiving hints that more new threads are on the horizon.

While recently appearing on Glass Half Full with Riker Lynch, lead actor Grant Gustin dropped this cryptic statement when discussing season 5:

“The suit that I wore for four years, it was easy enough to get into. It was a jacket and pants, and they were leather.”

If you’ll notice, Gustin was speaking in past tense, so perhaps the costuming department reinvented the wheel when it comes to the Scarlet Speedster’s duds this time around. Now I can’t help but picture a team of a dozen people trying to shoehorn the guy into a onesie or something.

Not long ago, we’d learned that the season 1 suit will be making a return in what was originally thought to be a flashback scene. But once the new trailer debuted at San Diego Comic-Con, one could infer that the O.G. getup emerges from the ring given to Barry by his daughter from the future, Nora. Though that may end up being true, we can’t rule out more surprises in the months to follow. My best guess is that he’ll wear more than one costume this year, but we’ll have to wait and see.

The Flash returns for its fifth season on Tuesday, October 9 on The CW.
