Agent Carter returns to ABC later this month for a second season, and the network has today released the first official images from the premiere. They offer up a very intriguing look at what’s to come, including new shots of the new characters who are joining this era of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

While the first season of Agent Carter wasn’t a ratings hit, it performed well with fans and critics, and the news of a second batch of episodes was very well-received when Marvel made it official last year.

For more information, here’s the synopsis for the season two premiere – titled “The Lady in the Lake” – courtesy of ABC:

“Marvel’s Agent Carter” returns for a second season of adventure and intrigue, starring Hayley Atwell in the titular role of the unstoppable agent for the SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), TUESDAY, JANUARY 19 (9:00-10:00 p.m. EST) on the ABC Television Network. Dedicated to the fight against new Atomic Age threats in the wake of World War II, Peggy must now journey from New York City to Los Angeles for her most dangerous assignment yet. But even as she discovers new friends, a new home – and perhaps even a new love – she’s about to find out that the bright lights of the post-war Hollywood mask a more sinister threat to everyone she is sworn to protect.

With the action moving from the Big Apple to Hollywood, Agent Carter is definitely undergoing something of a soft reboot, though plenty of fan-favourite characters like Jarvis and Howard Stark will still be returning.
