Even actors engage in a bit of cosplay now and again, and in this throwback photo that is sure to excite Doctor Who fans Karen Gillan has revealed that she once cosplayed as her own character, Amy Pond. Gillan starred opposite Matt Smith's Eleventh Doctor from 2010-2013 and it's fair to say her most famous outfit on the show was the police officer kissogram costume she wore in her first appearance in "The Eleventh Hour."

Even actors engage in a bit of cosplay every now and again, and in this throwback photo that’s sure to excite Doctor Who fans, Karen Gillan has revealed that she once cosplayed as her own character, Amy Pond. The actress starred opposite Matt Smith’s Eleventh Doctor from 2010-2013 and it’s fair to say her most famous outfit on the show was the police officer kissogram costume she wore in her first appearance in “The Eleventh Hour.”

Gillan donned the outfit again for a photo shoot in her native Scotland recently, as you can see her in the photo below dressed alongside someone decked out in Eleven’s tweeds and bow tie, standing in front of a real-life Police Box that can be found on the streets of Glasgow (one of the few that are still dotted around the UK).

The actress captioned the image: “That time we dressed up as Doctor Who characters in Glasgow on our lunch break while shooting a film. Does it count as cosplay if you actually played the character? #amypond #doctorwho.”

Karen Gillan has come a long way since she left Doctor Who, going on to star in some of the biggest blockbusters in recent years. Most notably, she’s played Nebula in both Guardians of the Galaxy movies as well as Avengers: Infinity War. She’ll also reprise the role in Avengers 4, as Thanos’ cyborg daughter was lucky enough to survive the Snap. Plus, let’s not forget that she was also in the surprising smash hit that was Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.

Still, the actress has never shied away from the role that has made her famous and, like this Instagram post shows, she’s always happy to look back at her time on Doctor Who. She’s also had lots to say about Jodie Whittaker’s appointment as the Thirteenth Doctor – including that she’d liked to meet her on-screen as Amy Pond at some point. It seems she’s already got the costume for it, too, so why not make it happen?
