7. Pretty Little Liars
Fans of Pretty Little Liars finally got the first part of a long overdue truth in the Halloween episode that aired midway between the summer and winter season (see previous page for my thoughts on that scheduling choice). Alison (Sasha Pieterse) is not a figment of the Liars imaginations as we were previously led to belief, she is somehow alive.
The first half of the season concentrated on the Liars moving in closer to the truth, which led them to the eerie town of Ravenswood (which is also the name of the Pretty Little Liars spin-off). Every step they took toward Alison was coupled with secrets, dangers, and unwanted realizations, but in the end it all paid off. They discovered that Alison had been in hiding for the last couple years (probably with the help of her brother) after her life was threatened by a mystery guy. The real cliff-hanger was not that Alison was alive (although it’s nice to finally know), but that the prime suspect for ‘A’ is Aria’s (Lucy Hale) ex-boyfriend, Ezra (Ian Harding). There are still plenty of secrets left for the rest of the season, but one thing is sure, the Liars really can’t trust anyone but themselves.
I still have my doubts about Ezra being the torturous type, but Pretty Little Liars is nothing if not full of surprises. It didn’t take long for Spencer (Troian Bellisario) to clear Toby’s (Keegan Allen) name, so I’m crossing my fingers for that archetype to hold.
