Proving that there’s still life beyond Avengers: Infinity War, Marvel and Netflix have just dropped the blistering first clip for Luke Cage season 2 in which Mike Colter’s Power Man shows off his superhuman abilities to an adoring Harlem. It’s only 50 seconds in length, but it does leave us with one burning question: where the heck was Marvel’s Hero for Hire when Thanos and the Black Order descended upon New York City?!

Alas, for the time being, Marvel’s film and TV franchises will continue to operate on two different tracks, and while a crossover would’ve no doubt sent the fanboys into a tizzy, writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely are of the belief that adding Luke Cage et. al into Infinity War would’ve been a “bridge too far.”

Besides, by existing under the shadow of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and their cosmic allies, Netflix shows like Luke Cage are able to carve out their own stories of superpowered individuals overcoming great adversary. And that’s exactly what Mike Colter’s brooding Defender plans to do this summer.

He won’t do so alone, though, given a team-up with Finn Jones’ Iron Fist is on the cards. Cage will need all the help he can muster, too, as Mustafa Shakir’s Bushmaster is loose on Harlem.

Here’s a reminder of season 2’s official logline, courtesy of Netflix:

After clearing his name, Luke Cage has become a celebrity on the streets of Harlem with a reputation as bulletproof as his skin. But being so visible has only increased his need to protect the community and find the limits of who he can and can’t save. With the rise of a formidable new foe, Luke is forced to confront the fine line that separates a hero from a villain.

All 13 episodes of Luke Cage season 2 will be available to stream from June 22nd.
