Madness Descends Upon Gotham In New Season Premiere Photos

Last week, Fox went on quite the promotional tear when it came to hyping Gotham's fifth and final season. As you may remember, we were treated to some cool character portraits, synopses for the first three episodes, and even a new poster. Not a bad way to signal the coming of Batman, if I must say so myself.

Of course, the next logical step would be a full gallery of photos taken from the season premiere, and we can fortunately present just that to you today. Seen below are thirteen images giving us an idea of what to expect from “Year Zero,” a portentous title that reminds one of a certain comic book storyline written by Scott Snyder and illustrated by Greg Capullo.

To start things off, we’re given a couple of looks at David W. Thompson’s Scarecrow, who somehow appears more accurate to the source material each time we see him. Furthermore, he can be seen accompanied by his gang sporting plague doctor masks.

Unfortunately, most other supervillain-led squads are absent from this particular slideshow, though it does look like Penguin and his goons get into a full-on shootout with Barbara Kean and her own thugs. In fact, the situation appears pretty dire for Babs, but she’s proven to be quite the survivor.

Aside from a few shots of Jim Gordon, Harvey Bullock and a Bruce Wayne who looks as though he’s cosplaying as Splinter Cell‘s Sam Fisher, there’s not much in the way of spoilers. Then again, it’s best that most of the surprises be preserved until showtime.

For more on “Year Zero,” be sure to check out the official synopsis:

Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) face the chaos Gotham City has become. Their mission to keep the city safe becomes more complicated, as the villains who survived the attack on the city begin to resurface and claim various territories. Meanwhile, Selina Kyle (Camren Bicondova) grapples with how to deal with her uncertain future.

Gotham returns for its fifth season on Thursday, January 3rd on Fox.
