Netflix’s most-watched hit of the week shocks the world by defeating one of its biggest-ever shows and a bulletproof hit factory

It's been racking up hours like nobody's business.

Having handily crushed the competition for two weeks in a row by accruing more hours watched and cumulative views than the rest of the non-English Top 10 combined, Lupin‘s plans of a three-peat have been cut off at the knees by the incredible popularity of Pact of Silence.

In fact, the Spanish-language mystery thriller didn’t just top that particular rankings system, but it’s been anointed as the single top-viewed film or television title on the entirety of Netflix over the last week, which is quite the feat for a 10-episode series that’s been facing some seriously stiff competition.

It was a close run thing, though, with Pact of Silence notching 68.8 million hours viewed. The three seasons so far of Lupin tallied a still-stellar 67.1 million, with Mike Flanagan’s The Fall of the House of Usher ascending to the top spot in its second week with 65.3 million.

Of course, an extended runtime of over 12 hours helped give Pact of Silence the edge when it’s longer than both the three parts of the hit crime caper and the gothic horror combined, whereas the victor in terms of nothing but total views was the risible Old Dads, but a win is a win no matter which you way want to cut it.

Then again, given that it’s got an interesting conceit and is rooted firmly in a genre that’s always been irresistible to Netflix subscribers the world over, maybe we shouldn’t be so surprised after all that murder and intrigue have once more reached the summit.
