During this year’s New York Comic Con, it was revealed that Aliens star Sigourney Weaver will play the villain in Marvel and Netflix’s The Defenders. No details were made available at the time, and we haven’t heard so much as a single rumour since, but the legendary actress has now been spotted on the NYC set of the highly anticipated series.
Unfortunately, the photos (which can be seen by clicking on the link below) don’t provide any clues, as the actress looks pretty normal and ordinary here. That doesn’t mean her villain won’t be totally evil or insane of course, and the prevailing theory among fans is that she’s probably going to end up being involved with The Hand in some way. We’ll have to wait until The Defenders reaches the online streaming service to find out who exactly she’s been cast as, but with any luck, some additional details will be revealed before then – perhaps in The Punisher or Iron Fist.
The Defenders will unite Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist, so if one thing’s for certain, it’s that Weaver’s villain is going to have to be pretty formidable threat in order for this lot to put their differences aside and assemble. Of course, she’ll probably have some backup thanks to the ninja clan mentioned above, so don’t expect her to get too physical with the team of heroes. More than likely, she’ll be in the shadows pulling the strings.
