American Horror Story gets cryptic with three decidedly creepy promos for season 8.

Aptly titled “Apocalypse,” next month’s installment heralds the crossover we’ve all been waiting for… the moment when Ryan Murphy and his creative team bring together the worlds of “Murder House” and “Coven” for what promises to be unmissable television.

In doing so, they’ve invited a slew of AHS veterans back for the eighth season – Sarah Paulson and Emma Roberts included – and based on today’s trio of static promos (h/t Bloody Disgusting), the first full-length trailer for American Horror Story: Apocalypse ought to be online imminently.

In typically cryptic fashion, each Instagram post is distorted beyond recognition, though lean a little closer and you’ll be able to spot a number of recurring themes – swinging pendulums, faceless figures… that kind of thing. It all combines to create a very eerie and unsettling update to the ongoing AHS promo campaign. Not that we would have it any other way, of course.

On the casting docket for American Horror Story season 8 are Sarah Paulson (Cordelia Foxx), Emma Roberts (Madison Montgomery), X-Men stalwart Evan Peters, Kathy Bates, Joan Collins, Cheyenne Jackson, Billie Lourd, Leslie Grossman, Billy Eichner, Adina Porter and not Lady Gaga, who’s presumably finished with the weird and wacky world of AHS.

Viewers can at least take solace in the fact that Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman (UnReal) and Kyle Allen (The Path) will be appearing as guest stars throughout season 8.

FX officially triggers the “Apocalypse,” American Horror Story-style, on September 14th, and such is the network’s confidence in its horror-thriller anthology series that it’s already issued the green light for seasons 9 and 10.
