The Power Rangers Will Brawl Onto Xbox One And PlayStation 4 In 2017

While the New York Comic Con may not be as massive as the one in San Diego, there are still plenty of publishers attending the exhibition. Bandai Namco is one of the bigger supporters, and for 2016, they brought a little surprise with them. After having the title on display today, the publisher officially announced Saban's Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Mega Battle.

Based around the first two seasons of the long-running series, Power Rangers: Mega Battle is a classic beat-em-up with modern flair. Players will get to step into the shoes of the classic five Rangers (Red, Blue, Black, Yellow, Pink) as they do battle against Rita Repulsa, Lord Zedd and other assorted baddies. Each level focuses on a different episode, with specific dialogue and details being depicted.

Like the show, most of the fighting in the game will take place on your feet. Up to four players can team up to squash Putties mucking about in scenic Angel Grove. For the bigger foes, though, the team will take to their Megazord in order to save the day. Both in and out of the Zord, players can chain together different attacks, including weapon-specific strikes.

Power Rangers: Mega Battle will begin with only the original five Rangers available, but other characters will be unlockable. Most fans of the series will be itching to play as the Green & White Ranger Tommy Oliver, but much like the show, he’s not there from the start. Likewise, Ranger replacements Aisha, Kat, Rocky and Adam can also be unlocked as you make your way through the game.

As someone who re-watched all of Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers when it arrived on Netflix (I was going through some things), I’m more excited about Mega Battle than I should be. The early footage from the trailer looks strange, but as long as the mechanics aren’t complete garbage, I’ll get some enjoyment out of it.

Saban’s Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Mega Battle is expected to launch in January 2017 for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
