Originally only announced for the Nintendo 3DS, Image & Form Games has now revealed that SteamWorld Heist will come to all current platforms in 2015. This means that the title will hit PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation Vita, Windows PC, MAC and Linux.

Taking place in the same world as SteamWorld Dig, but not a direct sequel, SteamWorld Heist is a turn-based strategy game set in space. Players will be in control of a group of robots as they battle enemies and search for loot in the wreckage of a destroyed planet.

As was the case with their previous effort, Image & Form Games will be following a staggered release strategy for SteamWorld Heist. Basically, this means that the title will launch on one or two platforms first, and then after some time has passed, it will release for another platform. While that may be annoying to those who are being shafted with a later release date, the developer is doing this in order to ensure that each release is properly optimized for the platform.

While I wish SteamWorld Heist was following a similar formula to Dig, which was a game that I greatly enjoyed, I’m definitely happy to see that it will be coming to all current platforms. I love the world that Image & Form Games has created for their franchise, and pulling off heists with robots is a pretty fresh and unique idea, if nothing else.

We will continue to have coverage of SteamWorld Heist in the coming months, so stay tuned!
