Team-Based Shooter Overwatch Lands On Consoles And PC May 24

Blizzard Entertainment’s team-based tactical shooter Overwatch will release in full on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC on May 24, the studio has announced.

In addition to the firm release date confirmation, Blizzard’s also announced an early access period to be held on May 3-4, with an open beta to follow on May 5. To access the former, though, you’ll need to pre-order the game. If you live in the UK, you’ll gain access to the early access period by pre-ordering from retailer GAME.

Following the head-start period on May 3-4 for those who have pre-ordered, gamers everywhere will be able to assemble a team of friends and check out the game free during the all-access period from May 5-9.

Blizzard have already held a closed beta for Overwatch on PC to gauge fan reception of the game as a whole, leading to the introduction of a whole new mode based purely on the feedback received from the beta.

For more information on the upcoming beta and what content you’ll be able to enjoy therein, check out the developer update video above. Alongside standard versions of the game releasing on May 24, a limited, $130 special edition will will also be available, which includes a “full-color visual sourcebook, the Overwatch soundtrack,” and a statue of Soldier: 76, “the vigilante alter ego of former Overwatch commander Jack Morrison.” Fancy.
