Latest ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ return rumors suggest Disney Plus is trying to redo ‘The Defenders’ the right way

Could Disney succeed where Netflix failed?

Netflix’s Daredevil run might be universally beloved by Marvel fans, but it’s fair to say its team-up spinoff The Defenders… isn’t. Although a small-screen version of The Avengers sounded like a guaranteed win, the eight-part miniseries really dropped the ball, falling far short of the promise of having all these street-wise superheroes uniting to save New York. The latest Daredevil: Born Again rumors have got fans wondering, though: is Disney Plus about to redo The Defenders the right way?

Following Born Again finally going before cameras this week, we got the exhilirating news that Jon Bernthal will be back as Frank Castle in the 18-episode revival starring Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock. Now, the latest word on the streets of social media suggests he won’t be the only fellow Netflix lead to drop by. Apparently, we can look forward to Krysten Ritter turning up as Jessica Jones as well, at least according to scooper Film Odyssey.

Feel free to take this with a healthy dose of skepticism, but Ritter returning has been on the cards for much longer than Bernthal, as the actress has repeatedly shared some extremely eye-catching updates on Instagram that heavily hint she’s gearing up for an MCU comeback. At the same time, Mike Colter could also be involved as Luke Cage, and even Finn Jones has done his best to pitch an Iron Fist return to Kevin Feige.

It’s entirely possible, then, that the various members of the Defenders could reunite in Born Again, making the show almost like — as one Redditor put it — The Defenders 2.0.

Here come the Heroes for Hire… we hope.

There’s no pleasing everyone, though, not in this fandom, and some are already grumbling that the series is biting off more than it can chew.

Daredevil: Born Again is believed to be headed for a streaming release sometime in the first half of 2024.
