A woman in a TikTok video said she had been forced off a Royal Caribbean ship against her will and left with her luggage. The clip was posted on the account My Kind of Cruise, which listed itself as a travel account and used the hashtags #royalcaribbean and #legendoftheseas.
In the caption, she wrote, “OMG I can’t believe I got kicked off a cruise.” She added that she was “Absolutely gutted and I just want to get back on, miss it so much already.”
The video opened with her speaking to the camera in a straw hat and square-framed glasses. On-screen text read “OMG !!” and “I was kicked off the ship!!!” A smaller line said, “And also my hat blew away… ” The background showed a glass-enclosed walkway that appeared to be a gangway.
Commenters said the clip showed a cruise coming to an end
She said, “Guys, something really, really bad has happened. We’ve actually been chucked off the ship.” She then said they had been told to leave, given their luggage, and had to go. “I just – yeah, I cannot believe it,” she said.
She called it “literally the worst day ever” and said it was “completely against our own will as well.” The camera later showed her walking along the gangway with the side of a large cruise ship visible through the glass. A gust of wind lifted her hat off her head, and she said, “Oh my God, no way!”
One commenter wrote that this is what happens when a cruise comes to an end. “Over 60 cruises and happens everytime .. unless you do a B2B then you get straight back on again,” the comment said.
Another commenter wrote, “we have started doing SBS cruises rather than B2B. means you get time on a different ship.” A further comment said, “We tend to do B2B2B but will do them on two different ships but only when we are in another continent never Southampton as they don’t go to enough good destinations.”
Other viewers treated the post as incomplete or as a joke. One commenter wrote, “Half a story. What really happened?” Another replied, “it’s a joke, holiday ended.” The first commenter then wrote, “It’s not funny.” The reply after that said, “Oh I agree. Pretty pathetic attempt at humour.” For Royal Caribbean, passenger removals can follow any breach of policy, though the company’s troubles go beyond safety rules, as a Massachusetts woman was called personally after skipping a gratuity.
World of Cruising travel writer Gillian Carmoodie has described separate cases in which cruise lines do remove passengers before a sailing is over. She wrote that each line has rules on alcohol and drugs, fighting, safety drills, banned items, abuse of crew, theft or fraud, and indecent conduct in public areas.
Carmoodie cited examples that included a Royal Caribbean guest removed in 2018 after an alleged attempt to bring alcohol on board in disguise, and a 2019 case in which a person was taken off a Norwegian ship after illegal substances were reportedly found in a cabin. She also pointed to a 2019 fight on P&O’s Britannia and a 2022 fight on a Carnival ship, which she said led to people being removed.
She wrote that skipping a muster drill, tampering with safety gear, or ignoring emergency rules can also lead to removal. Carmoodie said a Royal Caribbean passenger who climbed onto a balcony railing for a photo in 2019 was taken off at the next port and banned for life. Royal Caribbean’s troubles go beyond passenger removals, as one guest was blocked from her room and found dozens of turkeys inside.
The World of Cruising article also said cruise lines may remove guests for hidden weapons, drones, verbal or physical abuse of crew, unpaid bills, stolen cards, or sexual acts in public spaces. Carmoodie described a couple taken off a Holland America ship in 2020 after alleged conduct in a hot tub in view of other guests, including children.
The TikTok video did not state a reason beyond the woman’s claim that she and her party had been told to leave with their bags. She said in the clip that she could not believe it and wanted to get back on.
