Evolution Studios has revealed the extent of content users can expect within the PS Plus edition of its anticipated racing sim, Driveclub.

In the wake of the game’s postponement, expectant fans have questioned the viability of the free version, with many likening it to a subpar demo. However, in taking to the PlayStation Blog, the title’s director Paul Rustchynsky defended the depth of the PS Plus edition all the while outlining what users can expect come release.

“The PlayStation Plus Edition hasn’t changed. It’s hardly a demo because you get access to all of the game’s features online and offline. The difference is that you only have 10 cars and you can only race in one country (which gives you access to 5 tracks with 11 distinct variants).”

While it isn’t clear how many tracks and indeed cars the retail version of Driveclub will contain, Rustchynsky insists those with PlayStation Plus subscriptions will be able to whet their appetites before committing (or not, of course) to the full game.

Elsewhere in the article, Rustchynsky also touched upon the reasoning behind the game’s extensive delay. In pushing it from the PlayStation 4’s launch line-up, Evolution Studios were granted the opportunity to fine-tune much of the Driveclub’s social features. Chief among them includes the in-game dynamic menu, which extends across mobile and tablet devices.

Nevertheless, Driveclub is currently on the final lap of development after the studio made it through what Rustchynsky describes as a “long and hard winter,” and will look to live up to its proposed title of ‘socially connected’ racer when it releases on October 7th, 2014.
