Danielle Panabaker will be back as STAR Labs doctor Caitlin Snow in season 5 of The Flash, with it looking likely that her childhood and unexpectedly long history with her Killer Frost alter ego will be explored, if hints in season 4 were anything to go by. What’s more, the actress – who’s been with The CW’s hit DC show since the beginning – will also be doubling up her duties by taking on a role behind the camera.
ET has confirmed that Panabaker will direct an episode of season 5. Details on where this outing will fall in the run are currently unknown, but the star did make the following statement to the outlet, in which she talks about her passion for producing great TV and thanks her Flash family for the support in going for her first directing gig.
“I’m incredibly excited and grateful to be directing my first episode of television, and especially honored that it will be an episode of The Flash. Over the past 15 years, I have been lucky to work with many talented directors with a vast array of styles and methods. I have always loved the collaborative process, and my insatiable curiosity has led me to watch, learn, and absorb as much as I can from those around me.
“I am so humbled by this opportunity to utilize everything that I have learned as a storyteller to bring an episode of The Flash to life. I couldn’t be more thrilled to have the chance to work alongside our extremely talented (and vast) team that works so hard to make each and every episode of the show. I wouldn’t be here without the support of my Flash family, and I am so thankful for this opportunity to continue to grow and challenge myself as an artist. “
As fans will know, Panabaker is the second member of The Flash‘s regular cast to try their hand at directing. Tom Cavanagh AKA Harrison Wells has previously helmed two episodes, one each for seasons 3 and 4. Other notable guest directors include Kevin Smith, who’s worked on the show on and off since season 2, and Doctor Who‘s Rachel Talalay.
Circling back to Panabaker though, and the actress previously shared a post on social media that confirmed The Flash had resumed production in Vancouver. From what we know so far, season 5 is expected to explore the fallout of Nora Allen, Barry and Iris’ daughter from the future, coming back in time to the present. The next big bad, meanwhile, is said to be cult leader Cicada.
We’ll likely find out more details on The Flash season 5 at this weekend’s San Diego Comic-Con. The CW is holding a special presentation and Q&A panel for the show on Saturday, where the first trailer is expected to debut, so be sure to stay tuned.
