The reception to the Apex Legends Season 1 Battle Pass, titled Wild Frontier, was seriously underwhelming. While new hero Octane has proven to be a lot of fun, many have still felt pretty meh in regards to what’s on offer.

True, the Battle Pass has 100 levels to progress through, but with so many of the rewards just being badges and stat trackers, it’s kind of hard to get excited about any of it. What fans really wanted was something a bit more substantial, like some epic character and weapon skins, or maybe even some custom emotes and alternate executions. And though they didn’t end up getting that, it does sound like Respawn Entertainment has at least learned from their mistakes.

Taking to the EA website today, the developer provided a lengthy update which promised us that the next season of content will be a substantial step up.

“At EA Play in June, we will give you the first details on what you can expect from Season 2,” writes Repsawn. “We’ve seen all the feedback on Season 1 and look forward to showing you the improvements we’re making. For Season 2 you can expect a Battle Pass with more meaningful content, the introduction of a new Legend, the debut of a new weapon . . . and you didn’t expect Kings Canyon to stay the same forever, did you?”

Continuing on, Respawn stated that they remain committed to fixing bugs and exploits, while hoping to continue to make meaningful changes to the game.

“Just as we’ve done since launch, we will continue to address exploits, necessary balance changes, bug fixes, and small features throughout the course of a season. For complete transparency, our goal isn’t, and never has been, to patch or update content on a weekly basis. We believe strongly in the importance of large, meaningful changes to the game that have lasting impact, thus our focus on a seasonal release cadence we laid out at launch. We will continue to follow this cadence in the future.”

While this is all well and good, the developer also made some pretty lofty promises around launch that they still haven’t followed through on, so we’ll wait to see if they truly put their money where their mouth is once Season 2 rolls around. When that’ll be, we can’t say for sure just yet, but as more news on Apex Legends comes down the pipeline, we’ll be sure to let you know.
