From the glaring to the mundane, the final season of Game of Thrones had a lot of problems. One of the most discussed issues people had was a Starbucks cup that somehow ended up getting into the shot with no one noticing. For many, it was just the icing on top of the already ruined cake. Others saw it as an inexplicable gaffe that could go down as one of the biggest in TV history. What no one could pinpoint, though, is who was responsible for such an egregious error.
Well, Sophie Turner believes she has the answer. She says the culprit isn’t a key grip or a costumer designer, but instead is one of the faces of the series. After weeks of speculation, the actress has given her thoughts on the pressing matter of the errant coffee cup, saying:
“The coffee cup was where Kit [Harington]‘s chair was. First I blamed it on Emilia [Clarke], but I don’t think Emilia would do that,” she said on Conan this week. “Kit is lazy and I think he would have done that. It was in front of Kit’s chair and then obviously he moved and this picture was taken and it looked like it was in my seat, but I wasn’t there either. It was Kit. It was a hundred percent Kit.”
Ouch. That was a bigger betrayal than even Daenerys is capable of. Harrington won’t be able to respond to these accusations for a while since he’s currently in rehab, but it’ll be interesting to hear what he has to say about the ordeal. There’s a good chance he might turn the whole thing around on Turner or point the blame at Emilia Clarke. At this rate, Peter Dinklage may even get dragged into the mess.
The public may never know who’s responsible for the infamous Starbucks up, but one thing’s definitely for sure: this would never happen on the set of Chernobyl. Maybe that’s why Game of Thrones is staring up at its HBO competition in the IMDb ratings?
